ERP Platform Architect – SAP S/4HANA

Location: West Palm Beach, FL or Remote for Exceptional Candidates
Travel: Approximately 25%, with potentially heavier travel during the initial phase
Compensation: 150K-175K

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced ERP Platform Architect to provide strategic technical leadership for a major SAP S/4HANA transformation. This role will shape the long-term architecture, governance, performance, and scalability of the enterprise SAP landscape while ensuring technology decisions align with business objectives.

As a key technical leader within the SAP Center of Excellence (CoE), you will establish architectural standards, champion Clean Core principles, and guide the evolution of the SAP platform. You will work closely with Business Process Owners (BPOs), enterprise architects, technical teams, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and resilient solutions.

Key ResponsibilitiesEnterprise Architecture & Strategic Roadmap

• Own and guide the end-to-end technical architecture of SAP S/4HANA, SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), and associated cloud environments.
• Assess the existing SAP landscape against industry best practices, identify architectural gaps, and define a strategic roadmap for future-state architecture.
• Translate business objectives into scalable, secure, and resilient technical solutions aligned with Business Process Owners across Finance, Supply Chain, Sales, and Operations.
• Provide enterprise-wide architectural direction, ensuring individual technical decisions support the broader platform strategy.
• Evaluate opportunities to expand, optimize, and modernize existing SAP capabilities, including emerging technologies, automation, artificial intelligence, and advanced analytics.
• Guide technical teams and adjacent disciplines in executing the architectural roadmap, clearly communicating both recommended actions and the rationale behind them.

SAP Technical Governance & Clean Core

• Serve as a primary internal authority on SAP architecture, Clean Core principles, and technical governance.
• Establish, maintain, and enforce architectural standards, development guidelines, and effective code review practices.
• Evaluate custom development requests, including Z-code and modifications to standard SAP functionality, balancing business requirements with long-term maintainability.
• Promote SAP best practices and appropriate extensibility patterns, including the use of SAP BTP to minimize unnecessary modifications to the S/4HANA core.
• Ensure strategic customizations that support differentiated business processes are appropriately governed and aligned with the overall architecture.
• Chair or play a leading role in the Architecture Review Board (ARB), ensuring proposed solutions meet architectural, security, compliance, performance, and scalability requirements.
• Challenge short-term technical decisions that could introduce unnecessary complexity, technical debt, or future operational risk.
• Ensure architectural decisions support long-term platform stability while enabling business innovation.

Platform Architecture, Performance & Resilience

• Provide architectural oversight of the SAP platform, including capacity planning, performance, scalability, availability, and resilience.
• Partner with infrastructure, cloud, engineering, and BASIS teams to evaluate platform sizing, transaction volumes, system bottlenecks, and future growth requirements.
• Ensure high-availability, failover, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies are appropriate for enterprise operational needs.
• Assess the platform's ability to accommodate peak transaction volumes, operational disruptions, and periods of increased demand.
• Establish architectural expectations for recovery procedures, crisis response, and the continued availability of critical business systems.
• Challenge technical assumptions and recommendations to ensure the SAP environment is designed for long-term reliability, performance, and growth.

Integration & Ecosystem Architecture

• Define and govern integration patterns between SAP S/4HANA, BTP, and critical third-party applications and enterprise systems.
• Ensure integrations are secure, scalable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
• Evaluate integration technologies and approaches, including SAP Integration Suite/CPI, SAP PI/PO, APIs, and event-driven architectures where appropriate.
• Partner closely with the Master Data Architect to ensure reliable data flows, consistent data definitions, and effective alignment between platform and data architecture.
• Collaborate with adjacent technology teams, including Workforce Systems, to address integration dependencies and ensure SAP capabilities support end-to-end business processes.
• Support enterprise data integrity and accessibility by ensuring platform architecture enables accurate, consistent, and reliable information exchange.

Business Partnership & Transformational Innovation

• Work closely with Business Process Owners to understand business requirements, operational realities, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Translate business needs into architectural recommendations that balance innovation, standardization, cost, risk, and long-term sustainability.
• Identify opportunities to leverage additional SAP capabilities to improve existing implementations and support ongoing business transformation.
• Help shape the evolving SAP Center of Excellence by establishing repeatable processes, architectural standards, and technical decision-making frameworks.
• Build internal SAP expertise through knowledge transfer, architectural documentation, technical guidance, and collaboration with internal teams.
• Reduce long-term dependence on external implementation partners by establishing sustainable internal ownership of critical SAP architecture and platform knowledge.
• Serve as a trusted technical advisor to business and technology stakeholders, influencing decisions through expertise and sound architectural judgment.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Typically 10–15+ years of SAP experience, including significant experience in SAP architecture, enterprise solution design, and large-scale implementations.
• At least five years of experience with SAP S/4HANA implementations or complex S/4HANA environments.
• Deep understanding of SAP architecture, enterprise processes, integration patterns, and the relationships between applications, data, infrastructure, and business operations.
• Experience defining and maintaining technical roadmaps for complex SAP landscapes.
• Strong knowledge of Clean Core principles, SAP development standards, extensibility options, and architectural governance.
• Experience leading or significantly contributing to Architecture Review Boards, design authorities, or similar technical governance forums.
• Understanding of SAP BTP, cloud architecture, and SAP integration technologies.
• Experience evaluating platform performance, scalability, availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity requirements.
• Ability to assess complex technical environments, identify architectural gaps, and develop practical recommendations aligned with enterprise strategy.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain complex technical decisions to both technical teams and business leaders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SAP RISE and cloud transformation initiatives, including evaluating or executing migrations to RISE.
• Experience with SAP Integration Suite/CPI, SAP PI/PO, APIs, and event-driven integration patterns such as Event Mesh.
• Familiarity with SAP AI capabilities, advanced analytics, and emerging SAP technologies.
• Experience supporting complex, multi-entity organizations with geographically dispersed operations.
• Experience working with master data architecture, governance, and enterprise data integration.
• Exposure to SuccessFactors or other workforce management systems and their integration with SAP S/4HANA.
• Experience establishing or maturing an SAP Center of Excellence.
• Experience developing internal technical capabilities and transitioning knowledge from external implementation partners to internal teams.

Location & Travel

The preferred location is West Palm Beach, Florida. Candidates who can reasonably commute to the office are preferred, but remote candidates with the right level of experience and expertise will also be considered.

Travel is expected to be approximately 25%, with the potential for heavier travel during the initial phase due to ongoing transformation activities. Travel may include visits to operating locations across the United States, including rural areas.
