Registered Nurse II/III - MC/CHC - 4500 Medical Surgical Unit

About The Position The County of Riverside's Riverside University Health System (RUHS) is recruiting a Registered Nurse II/III - MC/CHC for the 4500 Medical/Surgical Unit, a 34‑room unit that cares for oncology and adult medical/surgical patients. Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy, caring for oncologic patients, performing blood product transfusions, wound care, and telemetry monitoring. The RN II is the journey level classification, performing all professional nursing duties with minimal supervision. The RN III is the advanced journey level classification, applying advanced skills and participating in quality assurance, policy review, staff development, and preceptorship. Required Licenses & Certifications A current and valid Registered Nurse License to practice in California. A current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association. A current and valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification issued by the American Heart Association, Blue Cloud – National Stroke Association, or Apex. Work Schedule 6/12 schedule (six 12‑hour shifts per pay period), night shift 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m., alternating weekends. Salary Range (Hourly) & Differentials Registered Nurse II – MC/CHC: $45.75–$70.81 Registered Nurse III – MC/CHC: $53.17–$80.24 Evening shift differential (6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.): $2.50 per hour. Night shift differential (11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.): $5.00 per hour. Examples of Essential Duties Assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions; make preliminary observations and prepare patients for medical treatment. Assist physicians in administering treatments and performing medical examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical operations. Administer prescribed treatment and medications, including dispensing, as ordered; chart and report significant changes and patient progress. Counsel and advise patients, families, and significant others regarding special medical problems and proper healthcare methods. Provide orientation and training to new staff, residents, medical students, and nursing students. Participate in quality assurance reviews; act as a team leader or relief charge nurse. Assign and monitor the work of subordinate nursing personnel; participate in committee activities; identify staff training needs. Triage patients by reviewing admission charts and assigning them to appropriate patient flow. Coordinate and monitor patients through hospitalization, utilizing physicians, primary care nurses, and third‑party payors to maintain quality care and fiscal responsibility. Review post‑hospital care plans with patient or family and follow care plan through discharge. Minimum Qualifications Registered Nurse II – MC/CHC Education: Completion of education required to obtain a valid RN license in California; a bachelor's degree may be required for some positions. Experience: One year of full‑time experience as an RN in an acute care hospital, clinic outpatient setting, or healthcare agency program. Knowledge: Current principles, techniques, and procedures used in professional nursing; medical terminology; instruments and equipment; medication effects; community resources; federal, state, and local regulations. Ability: Perform nursing duties; plan and organize patient care; maintain complete records; establish effective relationships with physicians, patients, and staff; assist in training entry‑level nurses; evaluate medical records; recommend discharge needs. Registered Nurse III – MC/CHC Education: Completion of education required to obtain a valid RN license in California; a bachelor's degree may be required for some positions. Experience: Three years of full‑time experience as an RN in acute care or community health agency; or equivalent years with higher degrees. Knowledge: Same as RN II. Ability: Same as RN II, plus advanced involvement in quality assurance, staff development, and preceptorship. Other Requirements Must possess and maintain a current valid RN license in California. Must maintain a current valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association. Possession of a valid California driver’s license may be required.
