Clinician-Boston Emergency Services Team (Per Diem)

Position Clinician - Boston Emergency Services Team (BEST), Department: Psychiatry, Schedule: Per Diem. Responsibilities Provide telephone triage for individuals experiencing psychiatric crisis, assisting with stabilization, crisis intervention, and referrals. Perform telephone screening of psychiatric patients, making accurate assessments and providing resource information based on patient needs. Document calls and recommendations for action. Identify appropriate inpatient settings for patients requiring admission under direction of the Clinical Director of BEST. Work with patients, families, and referring agents to facilitate admission into the appropriate unit. Maintain an up‑to‑date roster of area inpatient psychiatric units for adults, children, and adolescents and maintain liaison relationships with these facilities. Develop and maintain liaison relationships with MBHP, DMH, and all referring agencies. Refer patients to appropriate outpatient facilities, residential facilities, shelters, and halfway houses, maintaining an up‑to‑date listing and liaison with these resources. Inform referring source of final disposition of cases. Review findings with senior clinicians or the Clinical Director. Consult with providers as needed regarding client assessments and crisis interventions. Maintain documentation and records for all cases in accordance with program requirements. Contribute to organization and administration of teaching programs. Participate in all required orientation and training programs and complete required paperwork on time. Attend appropriate clinical and staff meetings. Maintain competency through continuing education and up‑to‑date licenses. Perform other related duties as needed. Qualifications Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, education, counseling, or related field. Preferred licenses: LCSW, LICSW, or LMHC. Previous field experience working in emergency psychiatry‑related clinical activities preferred. Knowledge of referral processes and community resources, crisis intervention, disability services, etc. Excellent listening skills, ability to diagnose problems, resolve conflict, and develop practical solutions. Ability to make alternative plans as needed. Advanced interpersonal skills to interact effectively with healthcare professionals and advocate for patients and families. Proficiency in English for oral and written communication. Cultural sensitivity and comfort with diverse populations; bicultural/bilingual competency is a plus. Proficiency with standard software programs used in healthcare (MS Word, Outlook), patient registration systems, electronic medical records, and web browsers. Compensation Salary range: $30.90–$38.42 per hour, based on education, experience, and licensure/certifications.
