RN - Intensive Care Unit

This position is for a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. The facility operates as a Level II Trauma Center. The unit has 14 beds with an average patient census per day. Common patient types include those with sepsis, pneumonia, respiratory failure, and kidney failure. Cardiac cases include CHF, STEMI, post-cath patients, and others. Trauma cases may involve gunshot wounds and stabbings. Surgical cases will include gynecological and gastrointestinal procedures. Neuro patients may include those with traumatic brain injuries and strokes. The required patient ratios are 1:1 to 1:3. If the patient count exceeds two, team nursing will be utilized. Long-term vented patients will be managed by ICU nurses, while medical-surgical nurses will manage other patients. Support within the department includes a charge nurse who typically takes a patient assignment. There will be 1-2 CNAs per shift, along with bedside and centralized monitoring. The unit has access to respiratory therapy and hospitalists available 24/7, along with intensivists. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC, which is mandatory for this position. Candidates should also be skilled in medication titration for sedation, pressors, and paralysis. The schedule will include weekend rotation every other week and one holiday per contract. Approval for requested time off can be made for up to seven days. Shift times will vary between day and night. Scrub colors are flexible to any solid professional color, with no graphics or designs allowed.
