Lead Physical Therapist

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a Lead Physical Therapist to oversee high-quality rehabilitative care within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this leadership role, you will provide advanced patient evaluation and treatment, mentor and support staff therapists, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes. You will help develop best practices, contribute to clinical education, and participate in quality and process improvement initiatives. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive physical therapy evaluations and develop individualized, evidence-based plans of care for patients with complex conditions. Deliver advanced therapeutic interventions, including manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re‑education, and functional training. Provide day‑to‑day clinical leadership, mentoring, and case consultation for staff physical therapists and support personnel. Coordinate complex patient assignments, assist in managing caseload distribution, and support efficient clinic or unit operations. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated, patient‑centered care. Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance with regulatory and MUSC standards. Monitor patient progress using objective outcome measures and adjust treatment plans to optimize functional outcomes. Support orientation, training, and competency development for new and existing team members. Participate in or lead quality improvement, outcomes tracking, and program development initiatives within the service line. Serve as a clinical instructor or preceptor for physical therapy students and contribute to in‑service education for staff. Maintain compliance with all state practice regulations, accreditation standards, and departmental policies and procedures. Engage in ongoing professional development and help integrate current research and best practices into clinical protocols.
