Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Responsible for assuring that the patient is correctly identified using the organization's two patient identifiers while in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, from the operating room or other procedural area.
• Assures that all equipment and supplies are in a complete state of readiness for the desires procedure.
• Responsible for conducting post-procedural patient and family education, utilizing the nurse process for assessment, evaluation and treatment of the patient across the continuum surrounding the patient's procedure.
• Completes treatments for the patients according to the patient's needs including but not limited to intravenous, respiratory, and any other treatment to assure the patient is hemodynamically stable.
• Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the adult or elderly patient and family's lifestyle, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.
• Focuses on problems, initiates referrals to other disciplines and/or services as appropriate.
• Demonstrates and/or verbalizes correct responses to emergencies as well as initiates effective action in emergencies.
• Pursues an education plan to maintain/improve knowledge in medical/surgical/critical care nursing.
• Initiates and utilizes positive, effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation, teamwork, and effective interaction with internal and external customers.
