Position Summary

We're hiring Custodians for our Facilities/Housing Facilities departments to help maintain the beauty, safety, and functionality of our campus facilities. From classrooms and labs to athletic centers and residence halls. Whether you're seeking temporary part-time work or a long-term full-time role, this is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact on SDSU's vibrant learning environment.

This hiring pool is used to fill roles on a temporary or permanent (probationary) basis, depending on university needs.. If you're dependable, detail-oriented, and ready to roll up your sleeves, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

• Cleaning classrooms, offices, laboratories, restrooms, common areas, and athletic facilities
• Restroom disinfection and restocking of paper and soap products, hand sanitizer and battery replacement
• Floor and furniture care: sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, vacuuming, shampooing, etc.
• Trash, compost and recycling removal
• Post-construction and emergency clean-up
• Entryway and lobby maintenance including windows and trash chute cleaning
• Light maintenance tasks (e.g., equipment cleaning/repair)
• Event and conference room set-up and support
• Maintaining supply carts and custodial lockers in neat, stocked condition

Position Information

• Positions may be offered as full-time, benefits-eligible permanent (probationary) roles; full-time temporary roles that may be renewed; or part-time roles. Eligibility for benefits in temporary or part-time positions depends on the hours worked and length of the appointment.
• These positions are designated non-exempt under FLSA and are eligible for overtime compensation.
• The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Division of Business and Financial Affairs is responsible for ensuring a safe, productive campus environment while providing the highest quality service in support of academic excellence through thoughtful stewardship of financial, technological, infrastructure and human resources at San Diego State University.


SDSU Facilities Services (FS), a department of Business and Financial Affairs, is a customer service-based organization providing facility maintenance activities through a transparent and deliberate process. It is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel, and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university. Facilities Services employs over 253 employees (full time and students) and supports approximately eight million square feet of buildings (including residence halls and parking structures) and 280 acres of improved and unimproved land with an operating budget of approximately forty-five million dollars.

The Office of Housing Administration (OHA) is a self-funded operation responsible for planning, providing, and administering housing operations, services, and facilities with over 100 employees and over 150 student assistants with an annual operating budget exceeding $145,000,000. OHA provides housing for over 8,500 students in 25 communities with over 2 million sq. ft. of residential facilities. The OHA manages the operation of residence halls, apartments, and conference and event spaces. The OHA supports the educational mission of the Residential Education Office (REO) while providing business operations for all housing-related functions in support of a quality environment to enhance the student educational experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience, in alignment with the department's budget and equity guidelines.

• Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 5 ($3,747) for qualified candidates.
• CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,461 - $4,752 per month (Step 1 - Step 17).
• Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.
