About the Position

Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 6 pm to 6 am Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active Registered Nurse License in the State of Colorado Certifications: BLS & NRP required; ACLS certification preferred Must-Have: - Minimum of an Associate's Degree (ADN) from an accredited nursing program. - Two years of experience is required. Description: Work in a beautiful location as a Labor and Delivery Nurse. The RN will independently assess and evaluate the health status of both labor and neonate patients using objective and subjective data. Identifying healthcare problems is an essential part of the role. Through the care planning process, the RN collaborates with patients, families, providers, and others on the healthcare team. Establishing realistic and measurable short and long-term goals is critical. Prioritizing patient needs through planning and implementing interventions is necessary. Patient education and counseling are integral components of care. The RN maintains safe and effective care throughout the episode of care. Standard procedures stabilize each patient's condition and prevent serious complications in emergency situations. Each intervention must be documented to determine outcomes and identify if additional interventions are needed for optimal health results. Acting as a patient advocate is a key responsibility of the RN. Essential functions in this role include: - Directly providing patient care during labor, delivery, and postpartum phases. - Monitoring the patient's response to care. - Assisting and educating mothers about breastfeeding and infant care. - Documenting all events and education in the patient's medical record using computers. - Communicating the patient's condition to the physician and nursing supervisor. - Collaborating with other staff in maintaining skills and learning new procedures. - Assisting physicians with procedures. - Helping with emergencies in other nursing units when possible. - Maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe environment for all patients. The physical demands of this position include regular use of hands for handling or feeling, and the ability to talk and hear. The employee frequently stands, reaches with hands and arms, and must stoop, kneel, or crouch. Occasionally, the employee will walk or sit. The role requires the ability to detect changes in odors. Frequent lifting or moving up to 50 pounds is necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision for reading medical records, color vision to observe patient changes, and peripheral vision to monitor surroundings while providing care. Adjusting focus is also essential for the role.
