RN Emergency Department

Job Summary The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. This role involves patient assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized care plans. The nurse collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to promote health and safety, maintain professional standards, and provide leadership within the practice setting. A minimum of one year of emergency nursing or critical care experience is required, alongside certifications including BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and NIH Stroke Scale. Responsibilities Collect comprehensive patient data and perform thorough assessments. Analyze assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses and issues. Develop and implement individualized care plans with expected outcomes. Promote patient health and safety through evidence-based nursing practices. Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team members to deliver holistic care. Continuously evaluate nursing practice against professional standards and guidelines. Participate in ongoing education and competency development, including stroke and trauma-related training. Comply with hospital policies and protocols related to emergency and stroke patient care. Provide leadership and contribute to the professional development of peers and colleagues. Required Skills & Certifications Current Registered Nurse license in Montana. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification. National Institute of Health Stroke Scale certification. Minimum of 1 year emergency nursing or critical care experience. Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and care planning skills. Ability to work effectively in a busy, stressful emergency department environment. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills. Preferred Skills & Certifications Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Experience with modified primary nursing practice. Additional trauma-related education and certifications. Special Considerations Must comply with hospital policies, procedures, and protocols related to emergency and stroke care. Role requires strong emotional intelligence and professional demeanor under stressful conditions. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, infectious diseases, and emotionally challenging situations. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, prolonged standing, walking, bending, and fine motor skills. On-call work and extended hours beyond the standard 40-hour workweek may be required. Scheduling Work schedule includes varied shifts with weekend and after-hours coverage. Regular and sustained attendance is required.
