Fundamental Consumer Equity Analyst - Multiple Opportunities

JW Michaels is representing several established fundamental investment firms seeking Consumer Equity Analysts for opportunities in New York. The mandates span different levels and team structures, from a junior analyst working directly with a CIO to experienced analysts joining a new Consumer team build. Current coverage needs include Consumer Staples, Retail, Restaurants, and Gaming, Lodging & Leisure. Candidates do not need experience across every subsector. We will align each individual with the opportunity most relevant to their experience, coverage and longer-term goals. Immediate Need: Fundamental Consumer Analyst An established investment firm is seeking a smart, driven analyst to work closely with its CIO across a broad Consumer universe. The role will include deep fundamental research, financial modeling, idea generation and ongoing work on both long and short investments. The team has particular interest in Staples and Retail, although strong Consumer candidates from adjacent subsectors will also be considered. The emphasis is on intellectual ability, work ethic and investment potential rather than a rigid pedigree. This is a high-exposure opportunity within a lean team where the analyst will work directly with senior decision-makers and have meaningful visibility into the broader investment process. Consumer Team Build A growing institutional investment platform is building a new Consumer team across Staples, Restaurants/GLL and Retail. The firm is open to candidates ranging from junior through senior analyst level. Staples and Restaurants/GLL are the most immediate coverage priorities, although Retail analysts are also relevant. The team is interested in candidates with strong fundamental processes who can take meaningful ownership of company coverage and idea generation. Timing is flexible, and candidates with current non-competes are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities Conduct fundamental research across relevant Consumer companies Build and maintain detailed financial models Develop differentiated long and short investment ideas Analyze earnings, company filings, industry trends and competitive dynamics Conduct primary research, channel checks and expert calls Identify key investor debates, catalysts and risks Present conclusions directly to PMs and senior investors Monitor existing positions and changes to the investment thesis Qualifications Relevant buy-side or sell-side Equity Research experience Strong accounting, modeling and valuation skills Experience across Staples, Retail, Restaurants, Gaming, Lodging, Leisure or adjacent Consumer subsectors Genuine interest in fundamental public-equity investing Intellectual curiosity and ability to develop independent conclusions Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to operate effectively within a lean, collaborative investment team Location: New York City, with some flexibility for Connecticut-based candidates depending on the team #J-18808-Ljbffr JW Michaels & Co.
