Construction Cost Estimator - Part time

We are hiring a Construction Cost Estimator - Part time for one of our clients in Newark, NJ.

Job Description:

• Accurately project the cost of projects and provides information by developing independent cost estimates based on cost of a defined scope of work at any stage of project definition.
• Prepares economic cost studies, cash flows and contingency analyses.
• Prepares all aspects of detailed cost estimates with minimal supervision. Projects are generally larger and more complex estimating assignments.
• Attend site visits to observe, review and confirm existing conditions, proposed modifications and details regarding items that may be replaced or repaired in support of the cost estimating necessities.
• Provides support in price negotiations.
• Performs related costs estimating and budgeting functions.
• Perform conceptual estimating by establishing a project's cost, before any graphical representation of a facility has been developed.
• Perform detailed cost estimates by breaking down the items of work on an orderly and logical basis, determining the cost of each item from experience and summarizing the total.
• Works closely the project managers to ensure the project estimate meets all financial and regulatory guidelines, including grant and federal procurement requirements.
• Analyzes specifications, drawings, sketches and sample layouts to calculate total construction cost using labor, material and equipment pricing schedules in concert with historical data.
• Prepares takeoffs on complex projects, drawings and plans with project management, and checks for mathematical and technical accuracy.
• Reviews proposals, contract documents and contract modifications to determine scopes of work and scope changes.
• Obtains quotes for materials and services.
• Accumulates, evaluates and documents historical cost data and construction procedures and methods in order to maintain current estimating standards and databases.
• Participates in presentations as required.

Skills required:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

Education required:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or closely related work experience is preferred

Experience required:

• Min of two years of experience in development of cost estimates for facilities, transit, rail, bridge, facilities, highway or underground construction

Work hours:

• Work hours: 24 hours per week, Mon-Fri (8:00 AM 4:30 PM)
• Lunch period (Unpaid): 30 minutes

Additional information:

• Occasional reimbursable travel to the work locations in Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Essex, Hudson and Mercer counties
• Dress Code: Business Casual
