Behavior Support Assistant

Opportunity To fill a current vacancy 7 hours per day, 181 days per year Itinerant assignments, (schools within Ventura Unified School District), and to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies. The established list will remain in effect for six (6) months. Position Scope / Essential Job Functions Below is a summary of the basic function of the position and scope of responsibilities. Under the supervision of the assigned Administrator, Specialist and/or the classroom teacher, assist with the monitoring, coordination and implementation of Intensive Behavior Interventions involving Applied Behavior Analysis leading to Discrete Trial Teaching, Pivotal Response Teaching, Floor Time, Incidental Teaching and other methods while working with individuals with exceptional needs. Minimum Entrance Qualifications Education and Experience: An associate’s degree in early childhood development, psychology, speech pathology or closely related field. Two (2) years of experience working with students with a range of disabilities, including experience using IBI/ABA techniques or implementing IBI/ABA programs. Additional related experience may substitute for some postsecondary education requirements.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS / CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURE

Be actively enrolled in a 40-hour Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training program; OR Have completed at least sixteen (16) hours of District approved ABA training within six (6) months of job entry Complete at least eight (8) hours of District-approved ABA continuing education and training annually. Completion of NCPI training or equivalent. Valid first aid and CPR certification. A valid California driver’s license – positions in this class frequently travel between school sites and/or district office. Selection and Examination Details Testing information The examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the job description. Step 1: Application Screening (pass/fail) This portion evaluates education, training and experience relevant to the position. If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be invited to qualifications appraisal interviews. Step 2: Qualifications Appraisal Interview (weighted 100%) All applicants must achieve a passing score in the interview process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.
