Registered Nurse Surgery

Department: Surgery Shift/schedule: Full Time (40 hrs/wk); M-F 7a-3:30p, no weekends, no holidays, call is required GENERAL SUMMARY Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager of Surgery. The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and supervises individualized patient care in the Operating Room. Policies and procedures for the department are maintained during this period of caring for the patient. The RN accepts responsibility for the direction of co-workers in the implementation of the plan of care. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required A Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing required Licensure: Licensed to practice as an RN in Ohio required BLS within 90 days of hire required ACLS within 1 year of hire required Experience: One year in comparable health care setting preferred. JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 1. Develops nursing care through the framework of nursing process. 2. Engages in patient assessment including collecting, organizing and prioritizing patient data with development of plan of care. 3. Facilitates patient/family teaching as appropriate. 4. Evaluates care in terms of patient outcome, including physiological, psychological, and spiritual well being. 5. Collaborates with other health care professionals; fosters nurse-physician-staff work relationships. 6. Assists in other unit activities as defined by the Nurse Manager of Surgery. 7. Performs circulating and scrub roles as assigned, following AORN standards of practice. 8. Performs “on-call” duties as required. 9. Contains costs associated with the delivery of quality patient care. 10. Maintains professional standards by participating in in-services, committees, etc. 11. Maintains positive interaction with customers by contributing and fostering the team approach in all unit operations. 12. Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy 13. Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU’s Why SOMC?
