Job Description Position Assistant Principal of Student Culture Department/Campus: Campus Reports to: Principal Work Hours / Days Normal School hours / 210 days Job Goal Responsible for assisting the principal to provide the cultural and administrative leadership necessary for addressing student safety and well-being, social-emotional learning, school discipline, and overall school effectiveness to create a strong culture for learning. Position Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in a PK-12 setting (Dove Experience preferred) Elementary Experience (preferred) Master’s Degree (preferred) Duties and Responsibilities Understand and support the mission, vision, and values of DOVE Schools. Investigate and resolve all discipline problems in a fair and just manner. Investigate student complaints and grievances. Interview students and witnesses in disciplinary investigations. Investigate, adjudicate, and monitor minor infractions of the school code in the form of progressive discipline such as detentions, classroom referrals, Saturday detention, and in-school suspension. Maintain disciplinary records required by policy, regulation, law, or good practice. Develop and administer disciplinary procedures in accordance with district policies and state laws; receive referrals and confer with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement; respond to and resolve parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints; serve on discipline or expulsion panels as assigned. Supervise students on campus before and after school; monitor students during lunch, recess, passing periods, and other activities; instruct students on inappropriate behavior; discipline students in accordance with established guidelines. Work with the Principal to establish a safe and secure learning environment for students. Develop plans for emergency situations in collaboration with other administrators, staff, and public safety agencies; direct the work of yard duty staff and crossing guards; plan and debrief emergency drills; update the school safety plan. Prepare and maintain a variety of district, county, state, and federal records and reports; direct preparation of records and reports by staff. Participate in administrative meetings and training to improve administrative skills; maintain current knowledge of the district’s adopted curriculum. Provide and maintain appropriate communication with family and community, including law enforcement agencies and the judicial systems. Work with community and government agencies on problems relating to drug abuse and truancy. Serve as liaison between school and home. Serve as liaison between the school and juvenile court. Represent the school system at community meetings and conferences. Participate in the creation and implementation of the campus's emergency evacuation and preparedness plan. Mentor and counsel at-risk students and students in need of additional staff support. Develop guidelines for proper student conduct and implement disciplinary procedures and policies that ensure a safe and orderly environment at the assigned school. Establish clear expectations, systems, and routines for behaviors, including social and emotional support. Lead strategies to proactively provide and coordinate student support services. Supervise teacher classroom management. Train staff on student code of conduct and implementation of discipline. Develop and implement teacher orientations. Maintain records of disciplinary actions taken to ensure that the student code of conduct is administered properly. Communicate with parents and key stakeholders regarding student discipline and safety. Maintain a safe and orderly school environment. Monitor the school ground actively for safety checks. Monitor student attendance and truancy, recruitment, enrollment, and retention activities. Assist in recruiting, selecting, and retaining highly effective teachers and staff. Establish and implement a plan for Well-being learning across the school aligned with DOVE priorities. Lead Character School application and designation process at the state and national level. Establish a professional rapport with students, parents, staff, and community. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parental involvement. Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops. Model personal commitment to developing self and others. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, and school personnel. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of classroom management, school culture, social-emotional learning programs, district policies, and procedures. Ability to receive, internalize, and implement feedback from multiple sources. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district. Ability to use computer including software, the database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine, and telephone. Ability to analyze data and generate reports. Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills. Work Environment and Physical Requirements Light work: may require occasional light lifting. Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
