RN - Acute Care Infection Preventionist- Epidemiologist

Position Description The Infection Control Epidemiologist II (ICE II) is a licensed registered nurse who supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Infection Prevention program at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. In this role, the nurse leads infection prevention activities within assigned clinical and non‑clinical areas, ensuring evidence‑based infection prevention practices are consistently integrated into patient care to protect patients, visitors, and staff. Leveraging strong clinical nursing expertise, the ICE II conducts surveillance for healthcare‑associated infections, assesses infection risks, manages outbreaks and exposures, and provides frontline and leadership education using adult learning principles. The nurse collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to drive performance improvement initiatives, translate epidemiologic data into actionable practice changes, and support regulatory and accreditation compliance. Working under the direction of Hospital Epidemiologists and senior Infection Control Epidemiologists, the ICE II nurse is accountable to HEIC leadership for advancing program goals and promoting a culture of safety and infection prevention excellence across the organization. Qualifications Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Maryland or eligible for Maryland RN licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, or related field preferred Minimum of 3-5 years of acute care nursing experience, preferably in a tertiary or academic medical center Demonstrated experience or strong interest in Infection Prevention, Infection Control, Epidemiology, or Quality/Safety functions Knowledge of healthcare‑associated infections (HAIs), standard and transmission‑based precautions, aseptic technique, and isolation practices Ability to interpret and apply evidence‑based guidelines (CDC, NHSN, APIC, SHEA) to clinical nursing practice Experience conducting clinical surveillance, chart review, and data documentation related to infection prevention activities Skilled in educating frontline staff using adult learning principles and providing real‑time clinical guidance Strong collaboration skills to partner with nursing staff, physicians, environmental services, and interdisciplinary teams Location: Johns Hopkins Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, MD Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Pay Rate: $50.00 - $60.00 per hour (Based on Experience) Johns Hopkins Health System and its affiliates are an Equal Opportunity / Affineprative Action employers.
