Summary

SQPA is seeking a dependable, attentive Safety Monitor to help maintain a safe and welcoming environment at our Cambria COMPASS Center. The Safety Monitor will support daily program operations by monitoring access to the facility, assisting with participant arrival and dismissal, and working with staff to address safety concerns. This role requires sound judgment, clear communication, and a respectful approach to working with young people, families, and visitors.

Primary Responsibilities

• Monitor designated entrances and exits, greet families and visitors, and follow site procedures for visitor identification, sign-in, and access.
• Support orderly participant arrival and dismissal, including following procedures for release to authorized adults.
• Monitor hallways, common areas, and assigned program spaces; promptly report unsafe conditions, unauthorized visitors, and other concerns to the supervisor.
• Work with program staff to support safe transitions between activities and reinforce site rules and expectations.
• Respond calmly to conflicts or disruptive behavior, seek staff assistance when needed, and promptly escalate urgent concerns.
• Follow established emergency procedures and assist staff during drills, evacuations, and other safety responses.
• Maintain accurate visitor logs and document safety concerns and incidents according to SQPA procedures.
• Communicate professionally with participants, parents, caregivers, staff, and visitors while protecting confidential information.
• Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• High school diploma; diploma or transcript documentation required.
• Strong observation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain attentive, exercise good judgment, and respond calmly in challenging situations.
• Ability to follow safety procedures, maintain accurate records, and work collaboratively with program staff.
• Commitment to creating a respectful, welcoming environment for children, youth, and families.
• Experience in youth programs, school settings, safety monitoring, or a related role preferred.
• Employment is contingent on required clearances and screenings for work with children and youth.

Schedule

This is a part-time, on-site position. The assigned schedule will reflect program needs and include required staff meetings and training. Availability is required for scheduled coverage on 13 holiday program days, when the center operates from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Job Type: Part-time (In-Person)
Compensation: $18 per hour
⏳ Hours: Approximately 15-20 hours per week
