Assistant Dining Manager – Union Market The Assistant Dining Manager assists in the management of a university dining unit that includes multiple styles of service such as cafeteria, grab‑and‑go, retail, or convenience store. The unit serves approximately 2,500 students, staff and guests each day and requires the direction of 10–15 full‑time employees and up to 300 part‑time student employees. Responsibilities Manage the production and service of food in accordance with prescribed standards. Oversee procurement and inventory of food and related goods. Supervise service and customer relations, ensuring prompt, effective, and courteous customer service for all guests. Perform quality and quantity checks of food items produced and supervise inspection of incoming food and supplies. Order products and take inventories. Orient, train, and coach all student and full‑time employees in all aspects of facility operations. Manage student managers and the student personnel program. Work weekends, various hours, special events, and holidays as business needs dictate. Minimum Education Required High School Diploma or GED. Qualifications Required High school diploma or GED plus 4 years of relevant experience. 1–3 years of experience in food service management or a related field. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to read and interpret receipts, safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Successful completion of a background check. Desired Qualifications Associate’s degree in hospitality management or a related field. 6 years of relevant experience. Knowledge of ServSafe sanitation guidelines or a similar food handler program. Experience working with HACCP principles. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience managing classified civil service, bargaining union member employees, and student staff. Knowledge of computerized ordering systems. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Compensation & Schedule Hiring range: $17.50–$22.86 per hour. Premium pay is available for employees who work a minimum of four consecutive hours after 3:00pm. Scheduled hours are 40 per week on a second shift schedule.
