About the Role
This person will support payroll for several hundred employees across multiple states and must be able to step into the role with limited training.
This is not a position for someone who needs to learn payroll from the ground up. The ideal candidate will already understand the payroll process, payroll review, payroll reconciliations, timesheets, and payroll adjustments and can quickly learn Travere's specific processes.
The Payroll Specialist will work closely with Payroll, Human Resources, and Accounting and will spend significant time reviewing payroll, checking entries, reconciling payroll data, and identifying discrepancies before payroll is finalized.
The company is growing quickly, so there may be opportunities for additional work or future roles, but any extension or permanent opportunity is not guaranteed.
What You'll Do
- Process and support semi-monthly payroll for several hundred employees across multiple states using ADP Workforce Now.
- Review payroll entries and information for accuracy and completeness before payroll is finalized.
- Perform the first-level review of payroll and identify discrepancies or missing information.
- Review multiple payroll previews and compare payroll data to previous payrolls to make sure changes are accurate.
- Review earnings, deductions, benefits, taxes, garnishments, salary changes, bonuses, and other payroll adjustments.
- Process and review employee timesheets, including calculating overtime and occasional double-time for non-exempt employees.
- Work closely with Human Resources on employee payroll information and leaves of absence (LOAs).
- Coordinate payroll-related information for employees on leave or other approved absences.
- Review new hire, termination, compensation, and employee status changes to ensure payroll is accurate.
- Assist with supplemental payroll runs when needed.
- Review payroll documentation and make sure required information is included in the payroll paperwork/review folder for each payroll cycle.
- Complete and review payroll reconciliations, comparing the current payroll to the prior payroll and researching differences.
- Use Excel to analyze payroll information, identify variances, and support payroll reconciliations.
- Review payroll reports and supporting documentation to ensure amounts and employee information are accurate.
- Support payroll journal entries and payroll accounting activities as needed.
- Work with the Payroll Manager and Payroll team to resolve payroll discrepancies and questions.
- Assist with payroll tax, benefit, and deduction reviews.
- Support 401(k), HSA, PTO, and other payroll-related accounting or reconciliation activities as needed.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 review and payroll data validation.

This person needs to be a true payroll professional who can step in and contribute quickly. The team has a small Payroll department, so the person must be comfortable jumping in, reviewing payroll, asking questions, finding discrepancies, and helping keep payroll on track.
The role is especially focused on review and accuracy, not simply data entry. The Payroll Specialist will follow the work being completed by the team, review the payroll entries and supporting documentation, compare payroll results, and help identify anything that does not look right.
