Executive Underwriter/AVP, Underwriting Director - E&S Financial Lines (Chicago)

Zurich is currently looking to hire an experienced Underwriter to join our Wholesale Financial Institution team. This position is dedicated to the wholesale broker channel and presents a great opportunity to join our Financial Institution team in either Chicago or New York City.

In this role, you will underwrite and perform financial analysis across financial institution risks. The position will have technical, transactional and market‑facing responsibilities and will also make contributions in the areas of product/proposition development, marketing, fulfillment and portfolio management.

Responsibilities

• Generating, underwriting and analyzing financial institution new and renewal policies.
• Market facing and production with wholesale brokers.
• Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating manual rules.
• Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.
• Manage a portfolio of accounts and develop a pipeline of business.
• Collaborate and cross‑sell with other stakeholders and lines of business within Zurich.

Executive Underwriter Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, accounting, banking or risk management.
• High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 3 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, accounting, banking or risk management.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 8 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience working in a team environment.

AVP, Underwriting Director Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, finance, accounting or banking.
• High School Diploma or equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 5 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, accounting, banking or risk management.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 12 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Microsoft Office experience.

Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. The combined salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $215,000.00. The proposed salary range for the Executive Underwriter is $100,000.00 - $165,000.00, with Global Specialty Incentive Plan bonus eligibility set at 30%. The proposed salary range for the AVP, Underwriting Director is $130,000.00 - $215,000.00, with Global Specialty Incentive Plan bonus eligibility set at 40%.
