Job Summary:

Piper Fire Protection is seeking a Fire Suppression & Extinguisher Department Manager to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the suppression department. This position is fully accountable for the department's Profit and Loss (P&L) statements, field quality control, regulatory compliance, and team development. The ultimate goal is to drive business growth while ensuring customer facilities remain safe and fully compliant with fire codes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage daily scheduling, dispatching, and routing efficiency for field service technicians.
• Maintain full accountability for the department's gross revenue, profit margins, and operating budgets.
• Conduct field spot checks and ride-alongs to audit technician workmanship, customer service, and compliance with NFPA standards.
• Recruit, hire, coach, and evaluate the performance of fire protection technicians and administrative support staff.
• Enforce local, state, federal, and OSHA guidelines. Lead mandatory safety meetings and "Toolbox Talks".
• Coordinate with purchasing to regulate shop material stock levels, tools, and fleet vehicle maintenance.
• Partner with sales teams to build strategic customer relationships, upsell services, and secure code-compliance contracts.
• Coordinate final project handoffs and system checkouts with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), general contractors, and owners.
• Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and working on a computer.
• Occasional exposure to outdoor climates, construction noise, and chemical dust from suppression materials

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related field preferred (or equivalent field management experience).

• 5+ years of experience in service-based operations management across multiple facilities, with transferable expertise in field service execution, regulatory compliance, customer support, and team leadership. Fire life safety industry experience, including portable extinguishers and pre-engineered kitchen/industrial suppression systems, is preferred but not required.

• 3+ years in a supervisory or departmental leadership role.

• Professional state certifications or NICET licensing in fire protection/suppression are highly preferred.

• Proficiency with service dispatching software, CRM platforms, and ERP suites.

• Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver's license and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record.

• Ability to split time between an office environment and active field job sites.

• Capability to safely lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and ascend stairs.

This role may require extended periods of sitting or standing, movement around the office or job site, and operation of standard equipment. Physical activities can include reaching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 75 lbs. Field positions may involve heavy lifting, working in varying climates (including outdoor conditions), construction or low-voltage environments, and exposure to dust, noise, or confined spaces. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required. Some roles may require travel.
