Full-time members of the faculty are professional educators whohave the primary responsibility of fulfilling the Colleges’mission, vision, values, strategic plan, President’s & Board of Trustees’ charges and educational philosophy, and primary goal ofproviding a quality education for all students attending theCollege. Faculty members are classified according to the ranks ofInstructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, andProfessor. Faculty members are subject to Board policies, includingacademic freedom, and are also bound by its accompanyingresponsibilities. The relationship of the faculty member to thestudent is one of leader, teacher, adviser, mentor, and facilitatorof learning. This position is intended to be in Psychology instruction.

Instruction & Student Learning

• Teach assigned courses as scheduled and assume primaryresponsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum inconjunction with the Department’s policies, ensuring both the rigorof programs and the quality of instruction.
• Designs curriculum embracing variety to foster talent instudents while modeling inclusive teaching strategies, with anunderstanding of the socio-cultural issues of traditionallyunderrepresented groups.
• Considers individual differences of students in order to designand support a range of appropriate learning activities.Participates in the identification of students with academic orother needs and responds by utilizing an appropriateresource.
• Use technology in a manner appropriate to the nature andobjectives of courses and programs and communicate clearly tostudents the expectations concerning the use of suchtechnology.
• Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance with the Faculty Handbook and departmental policies.
• Maintains attendance records, determines, and submits gradestimely, and in accordance with established policies and proceduresof the College, and communicates progress feedback as well as otherrelevant information to students throughout the semester.
• Creates and maintains accurate syllabi that incorporatedepartmental, college, cross-college, and instructorrequirements.
• Participate in the selection of appropriate materials tosupport course curriculum in accordance with the College’sguidelines. Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with theprescribed meeting schedule.
• Employs and assists in the design and development ofappropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performancein achieving course goals and objectives. Acts as a facilitator oflearning in a traditional and virtual environment.

Student Engagement & Advisement

• Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages activeand collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge,student and faculty interaction, and support for learners.
• Maintains posted office hours in accordance with departmentaland policies of the College. Use technology to assist incommunication with students.
• Encourages a sense of community among students for learningboth inside and outside the classroom.
• Advises potential or current students within the disciplineabout the program, career, or transfer options available to assistwith degree completion.
• Refers students to appropriate student and academic supportservices available at the College or in the community.

Continuous Improvement

• Promote continual improvement as part of the cycle of teachingand learning by: assisting, as appropriate, in the maintenance ofinstructional materials and laboratory facilities; contributing, asappropriate, to the development, selection, and improvement ofinstructional materials, laboratories, and other instructionalfacilities; providing guidance in the development, maintenance, anddesign of course description, course outlines, and syllabi;recommending modifications to the curriculum and participating inthe design of new curricula.
• Complete all mandatory performance evaluation measures withinspecified time limits and participate in all required training by the College. Shares best practices with colleagues in formal orinformal settings.
• Participate in instructional, departmental, or institutionalresearch to improve educational effectiveness. Evaluates teachingand assessment practices to continue improving them. Providefeedback, as appropriate, regarding the general operations of thedepartment, division and the College.
• Participate, as appropriate, in the interviewing, selection,and orientation processes of department faculty and staff. Providesadvice and/or assistance to faculty within the department,division, or College.
• Attend faculty meetings as called by the President, Senior VicePresident of Academic Affairs, Dean or Department Chairperson; andparticipates, as appropriate, on departmental and divisionalcommittees.

Professional Development

• Maintain a personal portfolio for tenure and promotion reviewand other career-related needs. Employ student, administrative andself-appraisals to establish goals and objectives for professionaldevelopment and participate in professional developmentactivities.
• Contribute, as appropriate, to the planning, evaluation, and/orpresentation of college professional development programs.
• Maintain required professional credentials, licensing, andcontinuing education hours as disciplinary standards dictate.

• Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect andinclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of thecommunity.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide consultative assistance to and advise, as appropriate,student organizations and groups.
• Contribute to the community and/or the profession as arepresentative of the College.
• Participate in local, statewide, or national levels in theadvancement of the discipline and/or the two-year collegemission.
• Work on a varied schedule, including nights & weekends tomeet departmental needs.
• *Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance isrequired.

Minimum Experience and Education required:

• Master’s Degree in the discipline of Psychology or SchoolPsychology from an accredited college or university.

Compensation Details

• 9-Month Instructor Salary: $51,460.00-57,635.20
• Optional Summer Semester (Full load):$16,648.82-18,646.68
• Optional Overload (maximum amounts shown):
• Autumn Semester (12 contact hours max): $11,520
• Spring Semester (12 contact hours max): $11,520
• Summer Semester (9 contact hours max): $8,640
