Duties and Responsibilities
A. Curriculum
1. Plans, reviews, organizes and selects Exceptional Student Program Curriculum for the centers.
2. Selects, orders, and processes developmentally appropriate materials, resources and curriculum for Exceptional Student Education in the centers.
3. Provides Instructional Leadership Strategies to create a uniform curriculum for students enrolled at the centers.
4. Coordinates theme-specific materials and curriculum with local public libraries for all Exceptional Students Educators.
5. Is responsible for any and all professional duties of test chairperson for the centers.
6. Plans for, locates and arranges out of school learning opportunities as related to thematic units for the centers.
7. Performs various other duties similar to the above stated, as those duties describe some of the primary features of the position.
B. Staff Development
1. Coordinates and implements instructional and non-instructional development trainings for the centers.
2. Prepares for faculty and staff presentations for the centers.
3. Identifies need for Exceptional Student support and provides in-service trainings to both instructional and non-instructional personnel in behavior medication and conflict-resolution strategies for students with special needs. A Positive Guide to Discipline.
4. Works with region and district personnel by contacting and arranging for curriculum support, in-service trainings, conference, seminars, and other off-site opportunities for staff development.
C. Program Implementation and Supervision
1. Provides on-going program implementation support to personnel including administrative members, Exceptional Student Educators, Paraprofessionals, and therapeutic service providers, at the centers.
2. Supports and monitors program and curriculum implementation on a daily basis.
3. Recommends instructional teaching strategies for exceptional students to Exceptional Student Educators.
4. Models strategic lessons as needed to all Exceptional Students Educators for the centers.
5. Assists all Instructional Staff Members in the identification of instructional resources, materials, forms management, Miami-Dade County Public Schools Education Portal and support services throughout the school and community so that they can implement information in the classroom or during meetings.
6. Plans the arrangement of classroom furniture and adaptive materials according to district recommendations.
D. Administrative Support Services
1. Alleviates Regional Director's duties by maintaining open communication with all personnel in an effort to resolve internal conflicts and issues.
2. Maintains a working and effective relationship between Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Schools of Choice, The Arc of South Florida and the centers.
3. Assists the Regional Director by arranging and providing tours to interested parents, community agencies and guests.
4. Updates and informs Regional Director of daily activities, plans, and site administration practices.
5. Disseminates information received at the centers to best fit the needs and state requirements of the centers, students, parents, administrators, instructional and non-instructional personnel.
6. Assists the Regional Director/Principal in ensuring that the centers and its facilities provide a safe environment to employees and students.
7. Arranges the composition of each classroom according to student needs, appropriate developmental progress, skills, and IEP objectives.
8. Revises, updates, and distributes Parent Contract sheet each school year.
9. Performs other administrative responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor at the centers.
E. Family and Community Support Services
1. Arranges and directs on-site parent in-service training opportunities at the centers.
2. Networks to create community partnerships in surrounding communities of centers' locations.
3. Executes parental involvement workshops in order to establish a Parent/Teacher Association.
4. Contacts and maintains open communication with parents on a weekly basis.
5. Provides support services to parents of students with disabilities during the evaluation and IEP process.
F. Interactions with Staff
1. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others.
2. Follow and provide recommendations and requests from Regional Directors, Senior Program Coordinator and Director of Children & Youth.
3. Cooperate with co-workers and community partners.
E. Policies and Procedures
1. Follow all Agency Policies & Procedures.
2. Comply with quality assurance expectations and standards.
3. Safety:
a. Follow all Agency safety and security policies and procedures
b. Report accidents, injuries and unsafe work conditions to Regional Directors, Senior Program Coordinator and Director of Children & Youth.
4. Ensure that personal appearance is professional and clean.
5. Speak with others using clear and professional language.
6. Answer telephones using appropriate etiquette.
7. Maintain child/student confidentiality.
8. Maintain Agency confidentiality.
9. Protect Agency assets.
F. Other:
1. Participate in fund-raising activities and agency events throughout the year.
2. Present a positive image of The Arc to the community.
3. Maintain organization of the School by filing paperwork and all required documents, storing equipment and organizing supplies.
4. Attend community meetings needed for contract compliance and by Department Head's directive.
5. Perform other related and additional duties as needed.
Minimum Physical Requirements
1. Must have TB Tine test.
2. Must be able to move, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 10 pounds without assistance.
3. Must be able to bend, squat and sit on the floor.
4. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. with assistance.
5. Must be able to stay alert and focused at all times to ensure the safety of the children.
Training:
1. Complete initial orientation provided by program.
2. Participate in on-going, in-service trainings of the Center and community in order to be current.
3. Attend required trainings through contract agreements of The Arc of South Florida.
Minimum Education & Certification Requirements:
• BA in Education or related field or FCCP. Master Degree in related field of education preferred.
• State Certified Professional Educator or eligible. State certification preferred.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience in field of Education.
Salary Range: based on education, training and prior experience.
