Director of Quality Assurance

Full-time

Cart.com

Job Description:

Who We Are:

At Cart.com, we're defining the future of commerce.

Founded to solve the growing complexity of modern commerce, Cart.com helps businesses simplify how they sell, fulfill, and deliver products to their customers. We bring together technology, services, and logistics infrastructure into one connected platform, making it easier for organizations to grow, operate efficiently, and navigate an increasingly fragmented commerce landscape.

We work with brands, retailers, manufacturers, and public sector organizations to support every stage of the customer journey, from ecommerce and order management to fulfillment, distribution, and delivery. By combining software, expertise, and a nationwide logistics network into a unified solution, we help our customers move faster, operate smarter, and scale with confidence.

But what truly sets Cart.com apart is our people. We're builders, problem-solvers, and innovators who thrive on turning big challenges into meaningful outcomes for our customers. Every day, we're helping shape the future of commerce while creating opportunities to learn, grow, and make an impact.

If you're energized by solving complex problems, collaborating with talented teammates, and helping build what's next, we'd love to hear from you.

Cart.com Milestones

  • Founded in 2020 with a vision to build the first truly unified commerce platform.
  • Achieved unicorn status with a valuation exceeding $1 billion.
  • Raised more than $475 million to support continued growth and innovation
  • Expanded a nationwide commerce and logistics network that helps organizations scale, fulfill, and grow across channels.
  • Recognized by Inc.'s Power Partner Awards for helping businesses grow and scale.
  • Recognized as an award-winning employer for four consecutive years, reflecting our commitment to building an environment where talented people can grow, innovate, and make an impact.

Our values: Cart.com is building a company that is committed to living out these 6 core values:

  • Be brand obsessed: Our lives are shaped by the brands we interact with daily. We obsess over the brands we serve, and about the things they care about.
  • Think beyond the box: “We’ve always done it that way” is not a phrase uttered often at our office. We create creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Don’t give up: We learn from our challenges and see them for what they are; great building blocks to an amazing brand story.
  • Speak up: We communicate clearly and directly because we care deeply. Communication is the bedrock of our community.
  • Work together: We’ve built a team that prides itself on diversity of thought and background. Collaboration is better with contrast.
  • Remember to be human: We work hard, but we leave room for the people, places and things that we love

Military & Veteran Experience

Cart Government Solutions values the leadership, discipline, and operational experience veterans and transitioning service members bring to our team. Experience gained through military service in quality assurance, logistics, supply chain operations, inspections, compliance, validation, documentation, cold-chain management, healthcare operations, or government programs will be considered alongside equivalent civilian experience.

Remote:

Candidates who live in or around the Houston, TX area are ideal, but we are open to considering other US locations.

This position is open to applicants or individuals who are located in or willing to move to AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MS, NE, NV, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV

The Role:

Cart Government Solutions is establishing a dedicated quality function to support its growing government warehouse, distribution, and regulated logistics operations. As the Director of Quality Assurance, you will serve as the senior quality leader responsible for building, implementing, and continuously improving a government-specific Quality Management System (QMS).

This role will lead quality across a multi-site network, driving consistent standards, overseeing audits, investigations, CAPA, validation activities, and quality-system performance. You will partner closely with Operations, Compliance, Client Success, Engineering, IT, and program leadership to strengthen accountability, mitigate risk, and support operational excellence.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on quality leader with experience building or leading Quality Management Systems within regulated warehouse, distribution, pharmaceutical, healthcare, government, or government-contractor environments. You combine deep quality-system expertise with practical operational experience and have successfully led multi-site quality programs, developed teams, and driven continuous improvement in complex organizations.

You are equally comfortable leading investigations, audits, and validation activities as you are communicating quality risks, performance metrics, and strategic initiatives to executives, customers, auditors, and government stakeholders. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building programs, creating structure, influencing cross-functional teams, and scaling a high-performing quality function that supports critical government operations.

What You’ll Do:

Government Quality Management System Leadership

  • Build, implement, and continuously improve the government Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Establish quality policies, procedures, governance processes, and documentation standards across government operations.
  • Develop site and program quality plans aligned to customer requirements, contractual obligations, and operational risks.
  • Lead change-control and continuous-improvement initiatives that support business growth and compliance.
  • Develop quality metrics, reporting, and management-review processes; provide leadership visibility into quality performance, risks, and key decisions.

Multi-Site Quality Leadership

  • Lead and develop site quality teams across multiple locations.
  • Drive consistent quality execution while empowering local teams to maintain operational ownership.
  • Identify recurring issues, drive root-cause resolution, and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
  • Influence cross-functional teams to adopt quality standards, processes, and controls.

Warehouse & Distribution Quality

  • Establish quality controls across receiving, storage, inventory management, fulfillment, shipping, and transportation activities.
  • Oversee inventory accuracy, product integrity, chain of custody, and customer-owned inventory controls.
  • Investigate operational quality issues, customer complaints, and inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure corrective actions are effective and appropriate safeguards are implemented when issues arise.

Environmental Monitoring & Qualification

  • Oversee quality requirements for ambient, refrigerated, frozen, and ultra-cold storage environments.
  • Lead temperature mapping, environmental monitoring, equipment qualification, calibration, and requalification activities.
  • Ensure excursions, alarm events, and monitoring failures are investigated, documented, and resolved.
  • Partner with Facilities and Operations to maintain inventory protection and business continuity plans.

Incident Management, Investigations & CAPA

  • Lead investigations involving deviations, nonconformances, excursions, service failures, and other quality events.
  • Oversee root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive action (CAPA) programs, and effectiveness verification.
  • Monitor open actions, risks, and escalations while ensuring timely resolution and stakeholder communication.

Audits & Document Control

  • Lead internal audits and support customer, government, and external audits, inspections, and certifications.
  • Maintain audit documentation, corrective-action records, and controlled quality-system documentation.
  • Partner with Compliance and operational leaders to address findings and continuous-improvement opportunities.
  • Communicate audit outcomes, quality risks, and remediation plans to leadership and stakeholders.

Supplier Quality & Change Control

  • Oversee supplier qualification and approved supplier programs.
  • Assess the quality impact of new sites, equipment, technologies, and process changes.
  • Review WMS enhancements and operational changes for validation, compliance, and quality-system impacts.
  • Ensure required training is completed and documented before implementation of new processes or systems.

Government & Customer Engagement

  • Serve as the senior quality partner to Operations, Compliance, and program leadership.
  • Represent the quality organization during customer meetings, audits, inspections, and government reviews.
  • Communicate quality performance, risks, investigations, and corrective-action progress to customers and government stakeholders.
  • Translate customer and contractual requirements into sustainable operating procedures and quality controls.

How You'll Spend Your Time

Priorities may shift based on business needs, customer requirements, and the maturity of the government quality program.

  • 30% – Building and managing the government QMS, procedures, documentation, and change control.
  • 25% – Leading and developing site quality teams while driving operational execution.
  • 20% – Validation, environmental monitoring, temperature mapping, and qualification activities.
  • 15% – Audits, investigations, CAPA, and effectiveness verification.
  • 10% – Government and customer engagement, executive reporting, and strategic planning.

Travel: Up to 50%, depending on site support needs, audits, investigations, program implementations, and customer engagements.

Who You Are:

  • You understand the quality risks associated with warehousing, distribution, inventory control, cold-chain operations, regulated products, and customer-owned inventory.
  • You have built, implemented, managed, or significantly improved a Quality Management System within a regulated environment.
  • You can establish a dedicated quality function and clearly define the respective responsibilities of Quality, Compliance, and Operations.
  • You have led quality programs across multiple facilities, business units, programs, or geographically distributed operations.
  • You can create consistent quality expectations across sites while empowering local teams to maintain operational ownership.
  • You have experience leading investigations, managing deviations and nonconformances, overseeing CAPA programs, and confirming corrective-action effectiveness.
  • You can assess complex operational issues, interpret quality data, and communicate risks and recommendations clearly.
  • You can move between strategic program leadership and hands-on technical review based on the needs of the business.
  • You are comfortable communicating with frontline teams, site leaders, executives, auditors, customers, and government stakeholders.
  • You can influence across functions, drive accountability, and lead change without relying solely on direct authority.
  • You are passionate about building a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, operational excellence, and quality ownership.

What You’ve Done:

  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in quality assurance, quality systems, regulatory compliance, supplier quality, distribution quality, operational quality, or related disciplines.
  • 3+ years of experience managing personnel or leading a quality function, program, or multi-site quality initiative.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving Quality Management Systems (QMS), including audits, investigations, CAPA, change control, document control, training, quality metrics, and ISO 9001-aligned quality practices.
  • Experience leading quality programs within warehouse, distribution, logistics, cold-chain, or temperature-controlled operations operating under cGMP-regulated, pharmaceutical, healthcare, government, or similarly rigorous environments.
  • Experience with temperature mapping, equipment qualification, calibration, environmental monitoring, alarm management, and temperature-excursion investigations.
  • Experience supporting supplier quality, operational change control, system validation activities, and quality assessments of process, equipment, or technology changes.
  • Experience presenting quality metrics, audit findings, investigation outcomes, program risks, and corrective-action plans to leadership, customers, auditors, or government stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate customer, contractual, regulatory, and quality requirements into practical operating procedures.
  • Strong executive communication, presentation, stakeholder-management, and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment and the ability to drive issues through resolution.
  • Bachelor's degree in Quality Management, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Life Sciences, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, relevant military experience, and directly related practical experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for supported programs.

Nice to Haves:

  • Hands-on cGMP experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, vaccine, medical-device, public-health, or similarly regulated products within warehousing, distribution, cold-chain, validation, or quality-system environments.
  • Experience building or transforming a Quality Management System within a growing, evolving, or highly regulated organization.
  • Experience supporting federal logistics, Strategic National Stockpile (SNS), public-health distribution, HHS, DoD, VA, CDC, FEMA, or other government programs; military, federal agency, or government-contractor experience is highly valued.
  • Experience leading validation protocols, qualification studies, and regulated change-control programs.
  • ASQ certification, such as Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), or a comparable credential.
  • Lean Six Sigma or another continuous-improvement certification.
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to support significant quality incidents and participate in warehouse walkthroughs and site reviews.
