Radiation Therapist

At Houston Methodist, the Radiation Therapist position assists in the planning, delivery, and monitoring of radiation therapy treatments. The role is a collaborative member of the radiation oncology team, providing total quality care to patients, serving as a liaison with physicians and supporting staff, and ensuring patient safety, customer service, and adherence to radiation safety standards set by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy. FLSA STATUS Non-exempt QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) as indicated below in the Licenses and Certifications section. No prior professional experience required. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS CMRT – Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist, State Licensure – Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, plus PSV Registration as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT‑GC). ARRT‑THR – Radiologic Technologist – Radiation Therapy, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; new graduates may be considered and, if selected, must obtain ARRT (T). BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA), American Heart Association. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Demonstrates necessary skills and competencies, as assessed through ongoing evaluations. Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential job functions, especially affecting patient or employee safety. Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and co‑workers, emphasizing customer service and positive language. Basic computer proficiency, operating hospital/radiation oncology information systems and office software to maintain patient and exam records. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills across all healthcare team levels, ensuring excellent customer service. Adapts to multiple priorities with minimal supervision, organizing workflow and engaging in problem‑solving. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS People Communicates effectively to deliver the highest quality service during patient encounters. Uses peer accountability toward department goals to retain staff and enhance engagement. Promotes a positive, team‑focused work environment, collaborating closely with inpatient care members and reporting relevant patient information comprehensively. Service Provides education and accurate instructions to patients and families at appropriate levels. Delivers a planned course of radiation therapy accurately and safely, as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. Performs simulation operations, selects appropriate immobilization and positioning aids, fabricates immobilization devices and custom blocks, and documents simulation steps accurately. Assesses the patient’s condition, needs, and side effects daily, providing information and referrals to appropriate resources sensitively. Quality / Safety Follows principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others. Adheres to safety standards and performs all procedures accordingly, maintaining sterile techniques and compliance with radiation safety and infection control. Implements and delivers the prescribed course of radiation therapy using department equipment, following institutional and professional standards. Performs and documents warm‑up procedures and machine operation checks per manufacturer, physics, and department guidelines. Finance Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures, entering, validating, and reviewing charges at service delivery, as appropriate. Uses resources efficiently, avoids waste, and self‑manages time effectively to prioritize daily tasks. Growth / Innovation Participates in department projects or shared governance activities, contributing to growth and development via in‑services and continuing education. Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies, fostering continual development as a Therapist.
