Assistant County Administrator

As a condition of employment all employees must pass a post offer criminal history background check, physical examination and drug screen. All employees must also submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.

Responsibilities include directing and coordinating the work of departments and programs who report to this Assistant. The Assistant County Administrator will monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures while allocating resources accordingly. This position will also assign projects and programmatic areas of responsibilities, review and evaluate procedures while meeting with management to identify opportunities for improvement. Non-elected department heads currently report to the Administrator or one of the existing Assistant County Administrators. Additionally, there are several County Departments that are directed by an elected or appointed official which require direct attention and assistance with their operations. Assistant County Administrators will work directly on special projects which may or may not be included within the scope of reporting departments. Community and professional involvement are an expectation. Executive level position reporting directly to the County Administrator, providing highly complex and responsible support to the Administrator and decision making to reporting departments. The Unified Government seeks an Assistant County Administrator who has a passion for public administration. This position will support and advise assigned departments, direct development of processes and implementation of department goals, objectives, policies and priorities for each assigned department. Position will support and advise assigned departments, work in close cooperation and coordination with the Deputy County Administrator and other Assistant County Administrators.

The Assistant County Administrator will be expected to foster relationships in the organization and community. The successful candidate will be able to manage the operations of the functions s/he is assigned with practical oversight of programs, budgets and personnel. Working with elected officials and other community stakeholders is required of the candidate. A proven track record of improving processes, developing talent, and working with our executives and staff on organizational change initiatives is highly desirable. The individual must also have a strong belief in building a culture of collaboration within the organization. The Assistant County Administrator will lead by example, be approachable, and inclusive in decision making and department operations. They will be responsible for representing Administration at Commission Standing Committee meetings, which is a working meeting of half the members of the governing body. Assistants will prepare and present various topics and issues in public meetings along with leading departments through the development and presentation of topics they are working.

Bachelor's Degree in Public/Business Administration or a related degree and 10 years progressively responsible management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master's in Public/ Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and work experience is preferred. Candidates must possess municipal management and fiscal management experience; strong inter-personal and communication skills; history of visionary leadership; proven decision-making and planning skills.
