Nuclear medicine technologists are direct patient caregivers. They perform dose preparation and administration functions for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purpose; perform patient procedures, process, and enhance images, and prepare images for interpreting physician to view.

Responsibilities include performing diagnostic nuclear medicine, therapeutic nuclear medicine, PET scanning, cardiac stress lab functions, and radiopharmacy functions as required. Technologists also perform all nuclear medicine dynamic, static and functional procedures required by specific studies, SPECT and SPECT CT imaging, PET imaging on a rotational basis, and all computer acquisition, and processing and documentation as required by procedure. They also perform quality control on all Nuclear Medicine instrumentation, order and administer radiopharmaceuticals, maintain records as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control, and perform all safety checks as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.

Other related functions include participating in Process Improvement activities, working at any facility, providing safe patient transport, handling, disposing, and decontaminating radioactive materials, maintaining a working knowledge of all procedural changes and equipment updates, demonstrating professional judgment and decision-making skills, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations including but not limited to OSHA, The Joint Commission, FDA, NRC, EPA, and the Florida Department of Health.

Qualifications include a graduate of an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology, must meet one of the following in totality: maintains current certification as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or maintains current certification as an (ARRT) (N) American Registry of Radiology Technologists in Nuclear Medicine. Must meet all of the following: maintains current Florida State License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification. No experience required, but must have knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment, procedures, and radiation safety.
