Certified Nurse AideThe Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) is a member of the Nurse Next Door team and works under the supervision of the Care Designer or a nurse and performs personal care services contained in a care plan written by a licensed health professional, employed or contracted by the agency. The CNA is responsible for observing clients, reporting these observations and documenting observations and care performed and will be assigned in a manner that promotes quality, continuity and safety of a client's care.Job Functions/Responsibilities:Bathing, grooming, including oral careAssist the client with dressing and undressingPeri-care, including the use of the bedpan and urinalProvide catheter care including changing the urinary catheter bagEmpty ostomy bags, or changing bags that do not adhere to the skinAssist in feeding the client, if necessaryTake and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure)Support good skin care to prevent skin breakdown (i.e. turn and reposition client, actively encourage movement)Assist clients with active and passive range of motions as defined by Care PlanProvide clients with help walking and transferring; assist with the use of devices for aid to daily living such as a wheelchair or walkerObserve client's physical, mental and emotional conditions; report any change to the Care DesignerAssist client in the self-administration of medicationPerform light housekeeping; maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment, to include light cleaning and straightening of the bathroom, straightening the sleeping and living areas, washing the client's dishes or laundry, change bed linens and making up the client's bedPerform meal preparation and clean upFollow principles of infection control and Universal PrecautionsProvide transport to doctor appointments, outside activities and shoppingClients Rights:Ensure client's rights are adhered to. These include but are not limited to:The right to privacy and dignity while care is being providedThe right to accept or refuse careThe right to confidentiality of their informationRespond rapidly and appropriately in an emergencyQualifications:Certified Nurse Aide current license (attach to your resume)High school diploma or GEDRegistered on the Idaho State Health Care Aide RegistryMinimum of one (1) year of documented experience preferableCertified in CPRCriminal background check clearanceNegative TB skin test or chest x-rayLicensed driver with automobile that is insured in accordance with the organization's requirements.Empathy for the needs of the clientDemonstrate effective oral and written communication skillsTreats clients, staff and the public with courtesy, respect and presents a positive public image.Works as a team member, caring attitude, and enjoys helping othersJob Limitations:The Certified Nursing Assistant will not function in any manner, viewed as the practice of nursing according to the State's Nurse Practice Act. Specifically, the Certified Nursing Assistant will not administer medications, obtain physician's orders or perform procedures requiring the training, knowledge and skill of a licensed nurse.The CNA SHALL NOT:Change sterile dressingsIrrigate body cavities such as giving an enemaIrrigate a colostomy or woundPerform a gastric irrigation or enteral feedingCatheterize a clientAdminister medicationApply heat by any methodCare for a tracheotomy tubeProvide any personal health service which has not been included in the written service provision plan or care plan.Environment, Personal Protective Equipment or Physical Demands:Working Conditions: In home care; Must be able to stand walk, squat, bend, kneel, reach, twist, push and pull. Must be able to lift to 35 pounds.Personal Protective Equipment: Physical Requirements:Contact with clients under a wide variety of circumstances. Care provided in client's living environment with varying situations or in an institution such as a hospital. May be required to respond in an emergency. Travel required. Position includes tasks that have the potential for exposure to blood and other potentially infectious material (OPIM) such as body fluids/tissues.
