Introduction The Maryland School for the Deaf provides an inclusive, language-rich environment for deaf and hard of hearing students from birth through age 21. Rooted in a bilingual education approach, we ensure full access to American Sign Language and English across comprehensive academic, extracurricular, and student life programs. In partnership with families and communities, we empower students to think critically and develop a sense of self and belonging. This is an 11-month position. Shift hours are Monday through Friday (12:00 AM - 8:00 AM). Location of Position MSD, Frederick Campus, 101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21705 Main Purpose of Job The RCYCP Supervisor provides supervisory level work over staff providing guidance to deaf and hard of hearing students by serving as a mentor and role model, offering advice and assistance with everyday life skills and providing referrals to other staff at the Maryland School for the Deaf. Employees in this classification supervise RCYCP. Position Duties Creating work schedules for staff, including substitutes when necessary. Developing schedules for special events such as weekend tournaments or snow days, and coordinating field trips, vehicle reservations, and food service requests. Reviewing and approving staff timesheets and overtime requests. Acting as liaison between the school and parents/guardians, working with specialists regarding the student's physical or emotional needs. Conducting building inspections, reporting maintenance issues, and maintaining inventory records. Assessing emergency and crisis situations, making appropriate contacts and referrals, and providing interim emergency medical and other assistance until specialized assistance is available. Conducting staff evaluations twice per year, attending Employee Performance Review meetings as needed, and attending staff meetings with the school management team and dorm staff. Creating, executing, and maintaining documentation of staff training for development as required by DHS and MDH. Performing other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Life. Minimum Qualifications Eight years of experience, including four years providing guidance to deaf and hard of hearing youth and assisting them with everyday life skills in a residential setting, one year of supervisory experience, and an additional four years of experience working in a residential program. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education or Human Science with four years of experience providing guidance to deaf and hard of hearing youth and assisting them with everyday life skills in a residential setting. Candidates may substitute additional education at an accredited college or university at the rate of sixty credit hours for each year of experience for up to two years of the required experience. Desired or Preferred Qualifications Supervisory experience within a Student Life/Residential program. Experience within a Student Life/Residential program. Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications RCYCP certification required and must be maintained. Must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland if duties involve operating a motor vehicle. CPR and first-aid certification required and must be kept current, as per residential child care licensure by the Maryland Department of Human Services. Special Requirements Proficiency in American Sign Language and in written English. Must pass a medical examination and an annual screening for tuberculosis, as required by residential child care licensure by the Maryland Department of Human Services. Subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09. Required to apply for a criminal background check, as required by the Family Law Article, Section 5-551, Annotated Code of Maryland. Required to be certified by the State Board for the Certification of Residential Child Care Program Professionals within the first 180 days of employment. Required to be trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid, with certification kept current per residential child care licensure by MDH.
