Director of Health Information Management (HIM)

Location: Kinder, Louisiana

Job Type: Full-Time

Work Setting: On-Site

Salary: $77,958-$103,958 per year

We are seeking an experienced Director of Health Information Management (HIM) to oversee medical records operations team in Kinder, Louisiana.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HIM professional or Medical Records Manager ready to advance into a director-level role. The successful candidate will lead departmental operations, ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of patient records, maintain regulatory compliance, and improve documentation quality and workflow efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

•Oversee daily operations of the Health Information Management and Medical Records department.

•Supervise, train, and support staff to ensure efficient workflows and accurate record management.

•Maintain the accuracy, completeness, integrity, and confidentiality of patient health records.

•Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and applicable state and federal healthcare regulations.

•Oversee medical record retention, retrieval, completion, and release of information (ROI).

•Monitor documentation quality and oversee ICD-10 coding accuracy.

•Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures.

•Coordinate compliance reviews, medical record audits, and corrective actions.

•Manage employee access to electronic medical records (EMR) in coordination with appropriate departments.

•Participate in hospital quality improvement initiatives, compliance meetings, and medical staff meetings.

•Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and IT teams to improve documentation practices and information management systems.

•Prepare departmental reports, monitor performance, and identify opportunities for improvement.

•Provide staff training on medical records procedures, privacy requirements, and regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications

•Acute-care hospital experience is required.

•Active RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) credential is required.

•An associate or bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.

•Five years of relevant HIM or medical records experience preferred; candidates with at least two years may be considered if they demonstrate strong leadership potential and the ability to manage departmental responsibilities.

•Experience supervising staff or managing medical records operations.

•Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10 coding, record retention, and release-of-information procedures.

•Understanding of HIPAA, patient confidentiality, and healthcare regulatory requirements.

•Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR/EMR) systems.

•Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

•Previous experience as an HIM Director, Medical Records Director, HIM Manager, or Medical Records Manager.

•Experience with medical record audits, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and documentation improvement.

•Ability to develop policies, improve workflows, and lead a healthcare team effectively.
