Communications and Marketing Intern

Intership Duration: September 7 - December 12, 2026 Pay: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour Location: Hybrid in Albuquerque, NM 87102 New Mexico Voices for Children is seeking a creative, motivated, and detail-oriented Communications Intern to support our communications team during the fall 2026 semester. This paid internship offers hands-on experience in social media, graphic design, short-form video production, writing, editing, and communications strategy within a nonprofit legislative advocacy organization. The ideal candidate is a strong visual storyteller and communicator who can translate complex policy issues into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences. The Communications Intern will help develop content that advances NM Voices' policy priorities and messaging, strengthen our digital presence, and support the communications team’s day-to-day work. This position is an excellent opportunity for a student or emerging communications professional interested in political advocacy, children and families, social justice, marketing, digital media, or nonprofit communications. Duties Develop engaging social media content that reflects NM Voices' policy platform, priorities, and messaging Create educational and informative graphics tailored to platforms including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and other digital channels Film, edit, and write scripts for short-form videos, including TikToks, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts Monitor social media trends among community partners, coalitions, and legislators and identify opportunities to adapt relevant trends for NM Voices' platforms Track social media analytics and prepare biweekly reports to help inform communications strategy Draft, proofread, and closely edit social media content and copy to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and quality Support communications projects across the organization, including copyediting, report layout, content development, and coordination with other departments Assist with other communications and administrative projects as needed Skills Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, accessible language Creative and visual thinker with an interest or background in graphic design, art, or visual communications Strategic writer who understands how to tailor messages to different audiences Experience creating graphics and/or editing short-form video content Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent design and editing tools; experience with InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, or After Effects is a plus Experience creating or managing content for social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X Strong proofreading and copyediting skills appropriate for college-level work Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently Flexible and collaborative team member who can work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds Strong interest in political advocacy, particularly issues affecting children and families Commitment to equity and advancing policies that improve outcomes for New Mexico children and families What You’ll Gain As a Communications Intern, you will gain practical experience in nonprofit communications, digital storytelling, social media strategy, graphic design, video production, audience engagement, and policy communications.
