PURPOSE:

A safety representative is responsible for reiterating safety protocols and regulations in the workplace to prevent potential hazards and operational delays. Safety Representatives facilitate training and programs for the employees and inform them of any communications related to their safety and wellbeing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.
Be consistently visible and active making rounds on the jobsite. Don't leave a void.
Conduct PTSA's. Include workers by asking them questions.
Attend daily Forman's meeting unless prevented by other duties.
Assist Foreman with permits including sign-off at the end of the day.
Ensure heat illness prevention is in place including water staged near workers.
Check any stair tower or scaffold for signed green tag as early in the shift possible.
Ensure equipment is being inspected and check-off forms are being filed.
Check for full PPE including hearing protections and PFAS.
Conduct fire extinguisher inspections.
Maintain warning lines as often as necessary.
Assist with housekeeping.
Coordinate fire watchers.
Monitor equipment speed on the jobsite.
Check LPG tank storage.
Check fuel can storage.
Complete Near Miss/Hazard Observation form for all near miss's and for hazards that need documenting.
Take notes of safety items needing attention to share with everyone at the next PTSA.
Consult workers who are not being safe.
Check electrical cords and GFCI protection at generators and outlets.
If equipment repairs are being performed check for LOTO.
Check PPE inventory and refill when needed.
Communicate with foreman about all purchases coded to the project.
Scan and file documents daily.
Meet with or contact the Foreman by the end of the day before leaving the jobsite to report on the activities of the day.
Complete safety inspections.
Submit daily reports and timecards.
Conduct incident investigations.
Attend Pre-Construction and other meetings as possible. Become familiar with GC safety program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of 1 year of experience in a safety role.

High school diploma or GED required. OSHA 30, 510, 3115 certifications. Equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience may be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Ability to proofread and pay close attention to details.
Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to multi-task while working with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
Ability to organize and prioritize work, as well as to balance business needs, employee needs, and business risks.
Skill in resolving complex problems independently.
Knowledge of OSHA standards.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Depending on the functional area of assignments, tasks involve the ability to exert physical effort in sedentary to moderate work, which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of up to 75 pounds.
