Physician - Emergency Medicine (Open Rank/Track Faculty and Associated Faculty) Position Overview Emergency Medicine physician directs and provides licensed medical care in the specialty area of emergency medicine. Responsibilities include diagnosis and treatment of patients, education and collaboration with staff, medical students, residents and others, and clinical research. The Emergency Medicine physician manages complex and unpredictable emergent situations. The Emergency Medicine physician must be competent in technical clinical skills, as well as cognitive and interpersonal skills required to serve those patients receiving the above-mentioned services. The Emergency Medicine physician is expected to practice within the established Medical Center and physicians’ standards of practice (policies, procedure, and protocols) and adhere to key results areas of the Medical Center. Department/Division Overview The Department of Emergency Medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center operates across multiple locations, including the University Hospital Emergency Department, East Hospital Emergency Department, and Advanced Urgent Cares treating approximately 120,000 patients in the Emergency Departments and 75,000 patients in the Advanced Urgent Cares annually. The University Hospital Emergency Department has an Observation Unit, HBO Unit, and an Oncology Care Pod. The Department of Emergency Medicine offers two residency programs. The Emergency Medicine (EM) Residency Program is a three year program designed to provide education and experience in the clinical, educational, administrative and research aspects of emergency medicine and its allied fields. The Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine (EM/IM) Combined Residency Program has combined excellence in leadership, residency training and academic and patient care opportunities. Research is a core mission of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Our research program is supported by multiple federal and industry grants and spans clinical, basic science and translational research realms. The department has two divisions. The Division of Ultrasound Medicine focuses on patient care utilizing state-of-the-art ultrasound techniques. The Division of Basic and Translational Science efforts focus on development of stem cell therapy and the role of non-coding RNAs in acute heart failure recovery. Duties and Responsibilities Directs and provides patient care, including the teaching and supervision of medical students and residents for patients being treated in the Emergency Department, Advanced Urgent Cares, or other approved locations. Based on candidate experience, candidate desire, and department need, clinical positions predominantly or wholly in the Advanced Urgent Care environment will be considered. Academic and educational development responsibilities including teaching, research and service requirements as assigned by the Chairperson, Department of Emergency Medicine. With availability based on candidate experience, candidate desire, and department need, full-time academic tracks include tenure track, clinical excellence, clinical educator, and clinical scholar.
