The Southwest Florida Water Management District is seeking a skilled and motivated Field Operations Supervisor to lead and support a diverse team responsible for maintaining and enhancing District conservation lands and critical infrastructure. In this role, you will direct and evaluate a team of five staff while overseeing daily field activities such as land maintenance, prescribed burn support, fence replacement, recreation mowing, and inspection schedules for District roads, culverts, bridges, and data collection sites.
This position plays a key part in preparing essential field and Four River Basins reports, managing the section’s work order system, and developing staff through coaching and mentoring. The Field Operations Supervisor also supports emergency response before, during, and after hurricanes, wildfires, flooding, and other critical events. The role also leads District conservation projects, coordinates with contractors and partner agencies, obtains competitive quotes and permits, and ensures all projects are completed safely, effectively, and in alignment with District priorities.

Starting Compensation:
Field Supervisor 1 $58,410.00 - $69,030.00
Field Supervisor 2 $66,906.00 - $78,588.00
Field Supervisor 3 $74,340.00 - $87,615.00
The starting salary range for the Field Supervisor position reflects the minimum to 50% of the compensation . The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.
Essential Functions
- Direct, monitor, and evaluate field staff in daily operational and land‑management activities.
- Oversee maintenance and repair tasks on assets such as fences, service roads, water control structure, bridges, campgrounds, dams, canals, levees, and small buildings/structures.
- Upkeep of disc lines/fire breaks on conservation lands and support for prescribed burns.
- Prepare field activity reports and other required operational summaries.
- Manage work orders, inspection schedules, and maintenance plans for roads, culverts, bridges, and data collection sites.
- Identify staff development needs and provide coaching and mentoring to strengthen skills and performance.
- Support emergency operations before, during, and after major storms, wildfires, flooding, and other emergency events.
- Complete administrative tasks including reviewing vehicle usage, fuel documentation, timecards, travel requests, purchasing activity, leave submissions, and vehicle discrepancy reports.
- Manage field‑based projects and coordinate with contractors and partner agencies.
- Obtain competitive quotes and procure materials needed for projects.
- Ensure necessary permits are secured and conduct site inspections to verify project objectives, priorities, and safety standards are met.
Working Conditions
In-office: Standard office environment and equipment such as personal computer, copier, etc. Occasional travel may be required. Ability to perform continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding and driving) with one or both hands and feet is required.
In-field: Work performed in the field may often be in remote and undeveloped areas of the District, under adverse weather conditions. Extensive travel and some outdoor labor may be required. May be exposed to extremes in elements, temperature and humidity and to a variety of pests, including mosquitoes and ticks. Must be able to able to bend, lift, carry, swim, and reach above shoulder level. May occasionally require the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to operate a motorized vehicle for extended periods, some driving may be in off-road (4x4) conditions. Should be able to operate all terrain vehicles (ATV) and watercraft. Must be able to trailer equipment, load and unload relatively heavy and cumbersome field equipment. Must be able to hike relatively long distances carrying sampling equipment, cruising and marking timber, or conducting prescribed burns in remote and rugged terrain.

Required Credentials for Field Operations Supervisor
Field Operations Supervisor 1
- Associates degree (or higher) and Four (4) years related work experience (Equivalent combination of experience and education is accepted)
- One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred
- Incident Command System (ICS)/National Incident Management System (NIMS) - ICS-100, ICS-700, & ICS-800 training is required within one (1) year of hire
- Valid driver’s license
Field Operations Supervisor 2
- Bachelors degree (or higher) and Six (6) years related work experience (equivalent combination of education and experience is accepted)
- Two (2) years supervisory experience
- Incident Command System (ICS)/National Incident Management System (NIMS) - ICS-100, ICS-700, & ICS-800 training is required within one (1) year of hire
- Valid driver’s license
Field Operations Supervisor 3
- Bachelors degree (or higher) and Eight (8) years related work experience (equivalent combination of education and experience is accepted)
- Four (4) years supervisory experience
- Incident Command System (ICS)/National Incident Management System (NIMS) - ICS-100, ICS-700, & ICS-800 training is required within one (1) year of hire
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Credentials for Field Operations Supervisor
- State of Florida Class A CDL
- Incident command - ICS-100, ICS-200, IS-195, IS-700 & IS-800;
- Wildland fire - S-130, S-190, & L-180 & BFCT wildfire training
- Valid Florida Forestry Service Prescribed Burners Certificate
- Florida storm water and erosion management

Additional Details
This position is typically scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., out of the Tampa, FL office. The primary work location for this position is out of the Tampa, FL office. This position is eligible for compensatory time for hours worked over 40 hours, in a week.
This is a safety sensitive position. As such, the employee will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing as well as fingerprinting.
