Job Title: Production Welding Lead
Job Description
This role leads a small team of welders in a busy fabrication shop, ensuring high-quality structural steel welds are completed safely, efficiently, and according to blueprints and production schedules. The position combines hands-on welding and fabrication with day-to-day leadership responsibilities in a production environment.
Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee a team of approximately 35 welders in a production fabrication environment.
• Perform hands-on welding and fabrication work, including MIG, flux core, and stick welding on structural steel components.
• Read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings to guide the team and ensure accurate production.
• Assign daily tasks, organize workflow, and monitor progress to meet production goals and deadlines.
• Inspect welds and fabricated parts for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications and safety standards.
• Provide on-the-job guidance, coaching, and support to welders to maintain consistent quality and productivity.
• Coordinate with other shop personnel to ensure materials, tools, and equipment are available and properly used.
• Promote and enforce safe work practices, including proper use of welding equipment and personal protective equipment.
• Assist in troubleshooting fabrication or welding issues and implement practical solutions on the shop floor.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient and safe operations.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in welding within a production or fabrication environment.
• Strong MIG welding skills with the ability to produce consistent, high-quality welds.
• Hands-on experience with flux core and stick welding processes.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and structural steel drawings.
• Demonstrated leadership ability to direct and support a team of welders.
• Solid understanding of structural steel fabrication practices.
• Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to shop safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience as a lead, lead person, or similar role in a fabrication or welding shop.
• Strong communication skills to clearly relay instructions and feedback to team members.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a production setting.
• Attention to detail in inspecting weld quality and finished products.

Work Environment
Work takes place in a fabrication shop environment that is non-climate controlled. The role is fully on-site and hands-on, working around welding equipment, structural steel, and fabrication tools. Team members typically work a steady 40-hour work week in a production setting, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and work-appropriate attire suitable for a welding and fabrication shop.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dalton, GA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
