Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)Lancaster County is a county-based ALS emergency medical service. Our current shift runs on a 24/48 schedule. In January we will begin integrating into a 24/72 schedule. We have 8 stations and run 9 ALS units, 2 QRV's, and 4 12-Hour units. Our annual call volume runs over 20,300 calls. We offer State benefits including state retirement.Examples of DutiesAdvanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMTs) provides high-quality prehospital care and safe transportation to the sick and injured in accordance with South Carolina DPH protocols, Lancaster County EMS Protocols and Policies and National Registry certification. AEMT are crucial healthcare professionals who provide immediate care to patients during emergency situations. AEMTs often work in high-pressure and unpredictable environments. Provides emergency medical care and transportation to the sick and injured in accordance with South Carolina DPH protocols, Lancaster County EMS Protocols and Policies and National Registry certification.Typical QualificationsKey Responsibilities:Respond to 911 calls and provide basic and limited ALS interventions to patientsPerform patient assessments and determine appropriate treatment pathways Assess patient condition and determine appropriate treatment based on Lancaster County EMS and SC State protocolsPerform patient assessments and determine appropriate treatment pathwaysAdminister approved medications per Lancaster County and SC AEMT protocols Establish IV/IO access for fluid and medication administrationAssist paramedics with ALS procedures outside the AEMT scopeSafely operate emergency vehicles according to Lancaster County EMS, state and local regulations.CEVO/EVOC CertificationDocument patient assessments using ESO, including treatments, and transport information in an accurate and timely mannerAssist paramedics with advanced life support (ALS) procedures within the EMT scope of practiceMaintain cleanliness, readiness, and inventory of the ambulance and equipmentCommunicate effectively with dispatch, hospitals, and other first respondersProvide compassionate, professional patient care during high-stress situationsParticipate in required training, continuing education, and quality improvement activitiesQualifications:Current South Carolina AEMT certificationCurrent National Registry AEMT (NREMT)Strong knowledge of SC EMS protocols and AEMT scope of practiceValid SC driver's license and acceptable 10-year driving recordCPR/BLS AHA certificationStrong communication and teamwork skillsAbility to work rotating shifts of 24/48 including weekends and holidaysCriminal Background Check RequiredCEVO/EVOC certificationNIMS and HazmatPhysical demands:Required heavy lifting, pulling, pushing, bending, stooping, crawling, etc.Long and irregular hours: 24-hour shifts or longer, work overtime, weekends and holidays, disrupted sleep and eating patterns. Ability to lift and move patients/equipment (commonly 100+ lbs with assistance)Exposure to infectious diseases: exposure to infectious diseases in the course of dutyFast-paced, high stress situations/environmentExposure to illness, trauma and hazardous situations as well as all weather types
