Paramedic - Full Time- Mercy Springfield

Overview Under the direction of the Medical Director and according to the protocols, procedures and policies of Mercy EMS, paramedics perform direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, basic and advanced medical rescue to access, stabilize, evacuate and transport patients to an appropriate destination in accordance with the goals of Mercy System, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, Standard of Care and Employee Code of Conduct. Paramedics also perform clerical and maintenance duties as well as other related duties as assigned. Position Details This is a full‑time position at Mercy Springfield. 42 hours per week. Sign‑on bonus available. Restrictions apply. Responsibilities Perform direct patient care and support emergency medical services, including assessment, evaluation, basic and advanced medical rescue, accessing, stabilizing, evacuating and transporting patients. Qualifications Licensure: valid Paramedic (EMT‑P) license for the state of practice and a valid driving license. Experience: Applicants must be at least 19 years of age. Certifications/Registration: Hazmat awareness level training, ACLS at hire, PALS within six months of hire/transfer. Other: Must have unimpaired mobility, be able to respond quickly to ambulance, access patients in difficult terrain, climb stairs, work in close and dangerous environments such as damaged vehicles, partner to carry equipment and patients, perform strenuous physical requirements such as CPR, lifting and moving equipment and patients, perform required medical skills and techniques, have correctable vision acceptable for day and night operation of emergency vehicles, color acuity adequate for determination of skin and blood color, read medication dosages on drug labels and syringes, hear and understand information provided by patients, family or bystanders, hear breath sounds, determine auscultated blood pressures, differentiate conversations in distracting environments, hear and understand radio traffic, speak and enunciate clearly, communicate verbally with patients, families and other emergency services personnel, and satisfy the physical demands of the role including a pre‑hire and annual fitness for duty test. Equipment Used: Mobile and portable communications equipment, monitor/defibrillator/pacer, approved stretcher, stair chair, backboard, scoop‑type device, variety of bags and kits, assigned ambulance, computer, fax, printer and other office‑related equipment. Preferred Education High school diploma or GED. Preferred Licensure ITLS or equivalent training. Preferred Experience Background in emergency services. Preferred Other Training in Tactical EMS (TEMS) if services are provided. Physical Requirements Must be able to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods during each shift. Must be able to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
