Sonographer - Full Time - Evenings

Job Summary Location: Nebraska Methodist Hospital, 8303 Dodge Street, Omaha, NE Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, evening shift 4:00pm-12:00am Shift Differential: 10% On‑call requirement at Methodist Hospital. Ensure patient understanding of pending procedure. Cover appropriate body parts and position patient correctly. Follow appropriate guidelines and departmental protocols. Perform exams as priority dictates and as directed. Critique each exam for technical and positional accuracy and make appropriate corrections if necessary. Follow American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines. Check all films with Radiologist and discuss end results. Workflow Management Review orders for clinical and demographic consistency and verify accuracy prior to exam. Willfully assist physicians, patients, and coworkers as needed and seek opportunities to provide patient care. Understand and support the direction and workflow of the department. Maintain awareness of ongoing exams and assist coworkers as needed. Provide exam information and status updates to pertinent staff members. Relieve coworkers from procedures/exams as necessary. Be in the department and ready to work at the start of scheduled shift. Have processes set in place to allow for leaving at the end of scheduled shift. Obtain and consolidate all images, reports and history with completed exam information for review. Take call. Coordinate inpatient procedure flow (Hospital Only). Provide management of ultrasound department workflow and patient exam flow. Be willing and able to fill in shifts or trade days when needed at any time. Heightened focus on efficiency. Systems/Cerner Maintain a working knowledge of Cerner. Start and complete own exams correctly and in a timely manner. Consistently use the Online Worklist to monitor orders and order status. Verify correct images matched with order. Demonstrate knowledge of RIS/PACS/Navicare/Outlook/Angel/mhsintranet/Nighthawk. Consistently use Exam Management for order modification, to document comments and film usage/repeats. Show a working knowledge of Folder Media and Order View/Entry capabilities. Consistently use Film Tracking to document the movement of the films throughout their usage. Show a working knowledge of Order View/Entry capabilities. Maintain working knowledge of Outlook and mhsintranet. Able to perform clean up functions on PACS workstation. Maintain working knowledge of Navicare. Maintain working knowledge of Nighthawk. Department Policy/Procedures Ensure proper patient identification on all images to comply with department policies and procedures. Willingly seek opportunity to provide patient care, or assist others as needed. Demonstrate knowledge of department guidelines through responsible behavior/actions. Maintain updated ARDMS license. Ensure that call reports and/or other specifications are followed through. Report issues/concerns as soon as possible and provide assistance with resolution/follow-up. Clinical Enrichment Provide and monitor “on the job training” per Methodist College standards. Maintain professional and courteous relationship with students and instructors. Provide leadership and guidance for students' educational clinical experience. Confidentiality Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA. Maintain student/co‑worker confidentiality in accordance with FERPA. Age‑Specific Patient Care Provide appropriate patient care. Show confidence and competency in all age‑specific categories. Ensure patient comfort and understanding of ordered exam. Complete age‑specific evaluation. Give full attention to what other people are saying, asking questions as appropriate to better understand what is happening. Qualifications Education American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registration or board eligibility required. Graduation from an accredited Ultrasound Technology program required. Participation in mandatory in‑services and continuing education as mandated by policies & procedures, and as directed by supervisors. Experience One year general and vascular Sonography preferred. License/Certifications Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography registration or board eligibility required. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential required within one year of employment. Preference for RDMS credential of Abdomen (AB) and Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN). Skills/Knowledge/Abilities Ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients and family members as well as hospital personnel and coworkers. Ability to effectively organize work in order to perform several tasks at once. Must be able to follow established Universal Standard and Radiation Safety precautions. Position requires flexibility to accommodate fluctuations in daily schedule, including but not limited to overtime, irregular hours, or on‑call responsibilities.
