Electrical Engineer

What You'll Be Doing The Electrical Engineer will perform all aspects of complete designs for small and large electrical and instrumentation engineering assignments. Working under general supervision in Bessemer City, NC, responsibilities include leading safety initiatives, supporting safety audits, investigating incidents, and implementing preventive maintenance strategies. Champion a safety‑first culture in all activities involving electrical and instrumentation systems. Conduct and support safety audits, job safety analyses, and safety observations, ensuring all personnel receive appropriate training. Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, driving corrective actions to improve site‑wide safety performance. Participate in PHA and support continuous improvement in process safety practices. Lead the implementation of best practices for preventive and predictive maintenance of sensing, control, and electrical distribution equipment. Align the site’s Electrical Mechanical Integrity procedures with corporate requirements and all relevant codes and standards. Direct the engineering design, review, and specification of E&I systems for reliability and compliance. Prepare detailed electrical and instrumentation design packages, maintaining Process Safety Information such as CAD drawings and loop sheets. Develop and maintain standardized approaches for E&I equipment selection and installation. Work with stakeholders and external contractors to ensure design and construction meet site standards and reliability goals. Lead handovers from project execution to commissioning teams for safe startup. Evaluate contractor capabilities, manage procurement through SAP, and ensure high‑quality project delivery. Provide leadership to E&I technicians, contractors, and supervisors, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution of work. Serve as the primary technical authority, providing troubleshooting and support to maintenance, operations, and engineering teams. Investigate and evaluate vendor products and services to ensure safety, reliability, and fit for site needs. Perform other duties as may be assigned. Ideal Background & Education Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university (required). Professional Engineering registration highly preferred. Experience 3+ years of industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering (required). Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficient in control systems, PLC/DCS, SCADA, and instrumentation technologies. Familiarity with design tools such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar. Strong understanding of industrial standards and practices (IEC, IEEE, ISA, etc.). Knowledge of hazardous area classification and intrinsic safety design. In‑depth experience with transformers, MCCs, variable speed motors, distribution systems (4160–480V), and process control instrumentation. Experience with electrolysis systems (rectifiers, bus bar distribution, motion controls) is a plus. Soft Skills Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Excellent communication and team collaboration abilities. Attention to detail, commitment to safety and quality. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
