They monitor and analyze the heart rhythm of patients, interpret ECGs, note arrhythmias, and intervene in emergency situations. They have high‑level critical thinking skills, vast clinical knowledge, are able to stay calm under pressure, and provide continuous care for patients recovering from open heart surgeries, heart catheterization with stent placement, ablations, pacemaker/AICD placement, and cardiovascular surgeries. The unit also provides comprehensive stroke/ STEMI care. Types of patients cared for include: acute and chronic heart failure, electrophysiology procedures (pacemaker, ablation), structural heart interventions (mitral clip, TAVR, TMVR, watchmen, valve angioplasty), post‑operative day one open heart surgery patients, and post cardiac catheterization patients. Growth Opportunities Working in the cardiac progressive care units is a great way to build critical thinking and skills. Nurses often progress to ICU, cardiac cath lab, EP lab, or leadership roles within 18‑24 months with support from their leaders. Requirements Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing Current state of Missouri RN licensure required. Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills required. BLS certification required at hire and maintained. ACLS required within 6 months.
