- Plan and perform audit of outpatient/inpatient medical coding and coding processes throughout BAMC to quantify coding agreement between medical record documentations and the standard ambulatory data record (SADR).
- Quantify the extent of over or under medical coding on patient encounters to include outpatient, ambulatory procedures, inpatient professional services rounds, inpatient consults and inpatient.
- Perform independent medical coding documentation audits, developing applicable training plans, and providing training to any BAMC employee performing documentation, coding, auditing or training functions.
- Provide BAMC leadership with a written summary of findings and recommendations for improving the accuracy of the medical record documentation and coding.
- Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of outpatient/inpatient medical coding processes and procedures in meeting established goals.
- Conduct random medical coding documentation audits for monthly Commander's Data Quality Statement and reports findings and recommendations as required.
- Identify correct principal diagnosis and principal procedure from coded documents based on physician's medical record documentation and established sequencing rules and guidelines.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees may be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening may be required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination may be required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
- This position may require the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- Additional requirements may be determined as positions arise and will be communicated during the hiring process if you are selected.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. In making this determination, the agency may consider your performance and conduct; agency needs and interests; whether your continued employment supports organizational or Government goals; and whether it promotes the efficiency of the Federal service. Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest.

- Intermittent Positions: This position does not provide guaranteed work hours each week, and work will be assigned on an intermittent "as needed basis." This position will NOT lead to a full-time position.
- Intermittent employees are NOT eligible for benefits (Health and Life Insurance) (Annual and Sick Leave).
- Temporary Positions: A temporary position is time limited and may be extended in one year increments to a maximum of three years and may be terminated at any time during the duration of the appointment.
- Term Positions: A term position is time-limited and may be extended to a maximum of eight years.
- Position may be designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
