Overview NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility includes the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility, an ambulatory surgical pavilion with services including women’s imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated as a Primary Stroke Center by the New York State Department of Health, with neurologists available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The hospital also has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices. Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Registered Nurse - Non-Invasive Cardiology - per diem. In this role, the successful candidate provides professional nursing care in accordance with physician treatment plans to support the comfort and well-being of patients and their families or support systems. The nurse assesses patient needs, plans and implements the treatment plan, observes and evaluates progress, and documents pertinent observations. The nurse works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health team to meet holistic patient needs and directs the delivery of nursing care by other members of the nursing team. The nurse also participates in the orientation process of new employees. Job Responsibilities The registered nurse collects patient health data by involving the patient, family, and other health care providers. Performs initial assessment based on the patient’s presentation. Records relevant data on the nursing component of the interdisciplinary admission assessment. Demonstrates awareness of the special needs of each age group, culture, and patients with disabilities. Performs ongoing assessments as established by department policy and as warranted by the patient’s response. Incorporates discharge planning into the admission process. Analyzes assessment data to identify problems and determine individualized expected outcomes. Demonstrates the ability to combine theoretical knowledge and clinical expertise to anticipate and plan for identified patient and family care needs. Analyzes assessment data to identify actual or potential problems validated with the patient, family, and other health care providers. Identifies cultural, ethnic, and spiritual aspects of patient/family dynamics related to care. Recognizes the patient’s comfort and pain management needs that may impact the plan of care and outcomes. Identifies knowledge deficits for the patient and/or family. Communicates expected outcomes to the patient, family, and other health care providers to promote continuity of care. Develops a plan of care with prescribed interventions to attain expected outcomes. Collaborates with the patient, family, and appropriate health care providers in developing the plan of care. Formulates a family-centered plan of care aligned with assessment and the physician’s treatment plan; integrates cultural, ethnic, and spiritual aspects. Incorporates teaching and learning principles in the plan of care based on identified learning needs and developmental level. Assists the patient and family in identifying and securing services to address health-related needs. Communicates the plan of care to the patient, family, and other health care providers to promote continuity of care. Documents the initial plan of care and provides updates as required. Establishes realistic goals, sets priorities, and uses time efficiently. Implements the plan of care and performs appropriate patient monitoring. Adapts nursing procedures to meet the needs of the individual patient. Provides education to the patient and family based on the identified learning needs. Identifies hazards to patient safety and maintains a safe environment. Works collaboratively with other team members to implement interventions. Assigns or delegates tasks as defined by the state nurse practice act and according to caregiver capabilities. Demonstrates knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, contraindications, and adverse effects; seeks resources when uncertain about medications. complies with medication policy and procedure for order transcription/verification, drug administration, and documentation. Evaluates the patient’s progress toward outcomes and documents responses and revisions to the care plan. Uses ongoing assessment data to revise expected outcomes and the patient plan of care as needed. Identifies barriers to achieving outcomes and utilizes resources to mitigate impact on the patient/family. Communicates with and includes the patient, family, and other health care providers in evaluation. Provides care that respects patient rights and ethical beliefs. Demonstrates activities that support customer satisfaction and quality of nursing practices. Participates in evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices and supports improvement initiatives. Maintains effective interactions with unit staff and other departments; contributes to professional development of peers and staff. Facilitates collaboration among staff on patient care and unit functioning; engages with Nurse Manager or Nursing Administrative Supervisor for issue resolution. Accepts feedback for improved patient care and unit functioning; participates in performance appraisal and professional development. Works with management to improve the environment of care for patients, families, and personnel. Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures specific to the assigned nursing service; participates in learning opportunities. Complies with staff meeting attendance requirements. Minimum Qualifications Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of a two-year program at an accredited School of Nursing. Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse. BLS certification and de-escalation training. ACLS (ICU, Float pool, Emergency Dept). TCAR Certification (SICU, PACU). For Emergency Dept: PALS, TNCC (within first year). BLS, ACLS, PALS must be through AHA. Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and families, recognizing cultural diversity. Customer service oriented; clear verbal and written communication. Analytical ability to assess and develop solutions to clinical situations or unit problems. Maintains knowledge and proficiency in the clinical area and age group served. Ability to frequently lift/carry more than 75 lbs and push/pull over 100 lbs; ability to frequently bend, squat, kneel, climb stairs/ladder, and reach above shoulders. Must be able to work in accordance with the responsibilities of the role. Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS Preferred Qualifications For ASU RN: 1 year of critical care experience preferred; BSN preferred; PALS preferred. Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (e.g., CAPA) preferred. 1 year of nursing experience in preoperative, perioperative, or post-anesthesia care preferred. Experience in patient assessment, education, and care planning for pre- and post-operative patients preferred. Discharge planning and perioperative coordination experience preferred. Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems, including documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and discharge instructions preferred.
