Public Safety Telecommunicator I
KENTON COUNTY FISCAL COURT
Description Deadline to apply: November 13th, 2026 Compensation will be set commensurate with credentials. GENERAL NATURE OF WORK This is skilled and semi-skilled work in dispatching for the Police Departments, Fire Departments, and other emergency service agencies served by the Communications Center. An employee in this class is responsible for receiving, managing and recording emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching the appropriate agency, persons, and/or equipment as necessary, while processing additional requests from first responders. Demonstrate clear and effective communications, both oral and written. Duties are performed under general supervision. Requirements NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS All applicants must comply with the requirements of the Telecommunicator Professional Standards Act of KY (KRS 15.530 - 15.590) which includes the following:
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
- Has not been convicted of a felony or other crimes involving moral turpitude
- Must complete a suitability screening, drug screening, and polygraph examination
- Full-time employees must attend and successfully complete the Public Safety Dispatch Academy in Richmond, KY for a total of one hundred and sixty (160) hours over four (4) weeks.
- Must be able to lift forty (40) pounds or more to a height of four (4) feet or more.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20 vision.
- Hearing must be within normal acceptable range of 20-25 with or without a hearing aid.
