Overview Lead AI Engineer – AGI Startup - Privacy – Remote up to £250k This role is fully remote, with the core team based in San Francisco. There’s a salary of up to £250k plus equity, along with typical startup perks. Please note: You must be eligible to work in the UK, US, or EU to be considered. What you’ll do We’re an under 2-year-old VC-backed startup with $30m funding, focused on building privacy-first consumer AI products. Our mission is to give users complete sovereignty over their data while providing world-class AI experiences. You’ll take the lead on application development for one of our flagship products, across macOS, iOS, and future platforms. This is a technical leadership role for someone who has been a CTO or tech lead of a consumer AI product and wants to build systems that balance performance, usability, and trust. About you You’re a product-minded engineer who combines technical depth with an obsession for user experience. You know how to take AI out of the lab and into polished consumer applications, where privacy, performance, and design are non-negotiable. You’re equally at home working on LLM optimisation for edge devices as you are shaping product direction. What we are looking for is someone with: Extensive experience deploying AI in production consumer applications (AI-powered assistants, productivity tools, recommendation systems, or creative apps) Strong understanding of LLM architectures, quantisation, and optimisation for edge devices (Transformers, LoRA, GGUF, 4/8-bit quantisation, ONNX Runtime, TensorRT, Core ML optimisation) Familiarity with the open-source AI ecosystem (Ollama, llama.cpp, Core ML, Hugging Face, LangChain, MLX) Knowledge of privacy-preserving ML techniques (federated learning, differential privacy, secure enclaves, homomorphic encryption, MPC frameworks such as PySyft or OpenMined) Deep expertise in the Apple ecosystem (iOS, macOS, Swift, SwiftUI, Combine, Xcode) Experience with cross-platform development and state synchronisation (React Native, Flutter, Electron, Tauri, Redux, CRDTs) Background in system-level programming and performance optimisation (C, C++, Rust, Metal, CUDA, SIMD/AVX, profiling tools such as Instruments or perf) A product mindset with a relentless focus on user experience Nice to have: Personal open-source contributions (GitHub, Hugging Face, llama.cpp, Core ML projects) or AI research projects Experience with secure enclaves, TEEs, or confidential computing (Intel SGX, Apple Secure Enclave, AMD SEV, AWS Nitro) Deeper knowledge of LLM quantisation and optimisation techniques (GGUF, QLoRA, FlashAttention, DeepSpeed, 4/8-bit fine-tuning libraries) There’s a salary of up to £250k plus equity, along with typical startup perks.
