Summary: The Simulation Technology Specialist sets up, operates, and manipulates patient care simulators, multimedia, computer and related equipment needed for simulating medical conditions and responses used in nursing courses. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Simulation Quality and Compliance Supports simulation operations in accordance with International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning’s Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice. Assists in maintaining compliance with institutional, accreditation, and regulatory standards related to simulation laboratory operations. Ensures student compliance with lab policies, procedures, and safety precautions. Restores laboratory to pre-scenario conditions. Maintains accurate patient charts. Maintains a variety of records related to simulation lab operations and equipment. Maintains laboratory schedule, attendance records, and tracks laboratory usage. Programs patient care simulators, prepares scenario props, and creates scenario moulage to model physiological responses to the clinical and skill objectives and specifications identified by faculty and other instructional staff. Sets up, operates, and manipulates patient care simulators and related media and computer equipment. Assists instructors with the implementation of virtual clinical medical scenarios. Explains to students the use of patient care simulators and related media and computer equipment. Supports faculty in simulation recording, playback, and debriefing technology. Supports operation of simulation capture systems, virtual simulation platforms, and learning technologies. Operates instructional media equipment such as video cameras, multi-media computer systems, and audio and video distribution systems used in a patient care simulation laboratory. Receives, sets up, and tests new simulators and related multi-media and computer equipment. Provides technical recommendations for simulation improvements. Assists in the research of purchasing options for lab equipment and software. Equipment Maintenance & Technical Support Performs preventative maintenance and repair of simulation, media and computer equipment in the lab. Diagnoses more serious equipment malfunctions and arranges for repair. Arranges for general maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment facilities. Troubleshoots patient care simulator, multi-media, and computer equipment problems. Orders, maintains, and provides security for supplies, materials, and equipment in the laboratory. Stores, discards, and rotates supplies and materials according to procedures. Manages lab inventories and supply management. Faculty Training Support Assists faculty and staff in the use of simulation technologies and related instructional equipment. Supports faculty in simulation recording, playback, and debriefing technology. Assists instructors with the implementation of virtual clinical medical scenarios. Data & Reporting Maintains utilization and operational data related to simulation activities and equipment performance. Maintains a variety of records related to simulation lab operations and equipment. Maintains laboratory schedule, attendance records, and tracks laboratory usage. Maintains accurate patient charts. Student & Faculty Support Explains to students the use of patient care simulators and related media and computer equipment. Works collaboratively with nursing faculty and students to support simulation-based learning activities. Gives clear and concise instructions related to simulation operations and equipment usage. Provides technical recommendations for simulation improvements. Researches purchasing options for lab equipment and software. Learns the characteristics of new equipment and updates skills to adapt to changing technology. Supports implementation of new simulation technologies and learning platforms. Education and/or Experience: One year of full-time, experience in the programming, operation, and maintenance of simulation based medical learning systems, or successful completion of a patient care simulator training program and one year of full-time, experience in direct patient care, or current valid certification in a health related field and one year of full-time, experience in direct patient care (training and/or experience with patient simulation equipment and related multi-media equipment is desirable. Knowledge : Patient care simulation technologies and applications Medical terminology Basic anatomy and physiology Simulation technologies, AV systems, learning technologies, and healthcare training software. Technical principles related to simulator hardware, software, and integrated simulation systems Specialized computer software used in nursing and allied health professions New developments in the field of human patient simulation learning Standard computer software applications Basic inventory and material storage procedures Recordkeeping procedures Skill in : Set up and operation of patient care simulation and related multi-media and computer equipment Abilities : Utilize problem-solving skills to resolve issues related to patient care simulation scenarios Troubleshoot patient care simulator, multi-media and computer equipment problemsWork effectively and collaboratively with nursing faculty and students Maintain the confidentiality of information Communicate effectively both orally and in writing Take initiative and work independently Meet schedules and deadlines Give clear and concise instructions Keep accurate and precise records Learn the characteristics of new equipment and update skills to adapt to changing technology Physical Demands : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
