Our rich history and strong community support pave the way for the future of healthcare as we serve you—our family, friends, and neighbors.Position SummaryEmergency Medical Technicians (EMT) respond to emergency calls to provide prompt and efficient care for the critically ill and injured, and to transport the patient to a medical facility. After being dispatched by either private line request, or our 9-1-1 Center, the EMT operates the ambulance to the address or location given, using the most expeditious route, depending on traffic and weather conditions. The EMT must observe all traffic ordinances and regulations concerning the operation of emergency vehicles.Position RequirementsHigh School Graduate or EquivalentCurrent Licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Illinois, or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Certification with the expectation that reciprocal licensure will be obtained upon hire.Current BLS/CPR Certification via the American Heart Association (AHA)Position ResponsibilitiesProvides pre-hospital basic life support care, from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility, maintains thorough patient care documentation.Practices within his/her scope of practice as defined by state regulations and the Carle Regional EMS System Protocol (CREMS)Maintains competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences. Communicates educational needs to the manager or Education Coordinator.Maintains documentation of required licensure, certifications, continuing education, drivers license and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures.Knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used. Responsible for reporting medical equipment failures and taking initial steps to ensure repair of equipment as directed. Maintains adequate supplies onboard ambulances to deliver patient care. Keeps ambulance clean and orderly to ensure rapid response to all transport requests.Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public.Participates in patient and referring institution follow-up.Participates in planned public relations and marketing, along with education activities.Functions as a medical team member.Completes necessary documentation. Complies with safety standards to assure safety of self, medical personnel, patient, and equipment.Performs skills and procedures commensurate with level of licensure, and as approved by Medical Director(s)Serves as a role model, educator and clinical resource.Acts as a preceptor and/or participates in orientation of new employees and students as assigned.Participates in continuing and outreach education programs.Participates regularly in departmental activities, projects, and committees.Attends and participates in meetings according to established departmental guidelines.Participates in departmental quality improvement activities as assigned.Undertakes and maintains projects assignedOther duties as assigned.The responsibilities listed above are not all-inclusive; other activities may be required in support of the hospital's goals and objectives.Pay ranges from $15.250 to $20.979 per hour (rate of pay is based on applicable years of experience)Location: 721 E.
