Maintenance Engineer

This Maintenance Engineer role focuses on maintaining and operating landfill gas collection systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance. You will inspect and service wells and pumps, perform hands-on mechanical maintenance using hand and power tools, and accurately document field findings on a company-provided laptop. The position is field-based at an active landfill and requires comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions while following strict health, safety, and environmental standards.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the landfill gas collection system to meet performance standards through timely, efficient, and cost-effective operations and maintenance activities.
  • Perform monthly monitoring of the wellfield, including taking liquid level measurements in gas extraction wells and monitoring perimeter probes for surface emissions.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on system components, including cleaning and maintaining pneumatic pumps, performing HDPE pipe welding, and supporting blower and flare operations.
  • Maintain and service the condensate management system to ensure proper functioning and compliance with operational requirements.
  • Use hand and power tools to inspect, repair, and adjust mechanical components within the gas collection system.
  • Operate a laptop to enter data, document field measurements, and maintain accurate operating records and reports.
  • Report field conditions, monitoring results, and test data to the supervisor and, when required, to the client in a clear and timely manner.
  • Participate in regular Health and Safety meetings and follow all established safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain operating records in accordance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions while navigating uneven terrain and inclines/declines.
  • Assist at other landfill locations within Indiana as needed, traveling in a company-provided vehicle.
  • Support general maintenance and inspection tasks around the landfill site to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Essential Skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to quickly learn and perform mechanical maintenance tasks.
  • Experience working outdoors in different weather conditions and comfort performing physical tasks in the field for 8+ hours.
  • Construction or similar field experience that demonstrates familiarity with tools, equipment, and active work sites.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively for maintenance and repair work.
  • Basic technology skills and comfort using a computer or laptop for data entry and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to perform inspections and monitoring activities, including measuring liquid levels and checking perimeter probes.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when recording data and documenting field conditions.
  • Commitment to following Health and Safety standards and participating in safety meetings.
  • No certificates or specific formal education requirements are needed for this position.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in landfill, environmental, or industrial maintenance environments.
  • In maintenance repair or mechanical systems servicing.
  • Familiarity with HDPE pipe welding or willingness to learn.
  • Experience with blower and flare operations or similar mechanical systems.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software for data entry and documentation.
  • Comfort working in environments with strong odors, such as sulfur-like landfill smells.
  • Willingness to travel to and assist at other sites within the state using a company vehicle.

Work Environment

This role is based onsite at a landfill that operates 24/7, with a primary schedule on 1st shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Weekend work or overtime may be required, and you should be comfortable with occasional schedule flexibility. You will work outdoors for more than 8 hours at a time in varying weather conditions, using your company vehicle as needed for shelter or to warm up or cool down between tasks. The site includes uneven terrain and areas with inclines and declines, requiring regular walking and physical activity. The landfill environment has a sulfur-like odor that may be strong at times. You may assist at other locations within Indiana, traveling in a company-provided vehicle. Personal protective equipment is required, including steel-toed boots, and you receive a boot voucher during your first week. Company uniforms are provided to support a consistent and safe dress standard appropriate for field and maintenance work.

Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brook, IN.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
