Health Information Specialist

Perform medical record services and manage patient information by analyzing patient data denial remits and determining what the payor requires to adjudicate the claim. Analyze the denial and notify the manager of new or different remit issues in work queues. Work timely and notify the supervisor when there are any delays in keeping work queues empty. Review insurance remits and determine what medical records the insurance company needs to adjudicate patient claims. Determine based on the request where and how the records are processed and where the records need to be sent. Designate whether records need to be printed, uploaded to portals, and/or transmitted electronically. Learn each payor and work with the payer's guidelines. Work within the timeframes expected and report any delays in processing. Contact insurance companies to ensure records sent are received at the appropriate insurance destination. Communicate and interact with payors as required. Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned. Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field OR Associate's Degree PLUS 2 years of medical or legal experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience RHIA or RHIT preferred Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in managing patient information and analyzing medical records to ensure compliance with payer requirements. Proficient in communication with insurance companies and timely processing of claims.
