Maintenance Mechanic

Automation TechnicianThis position is responsible for modifying, repairing, maintaining and providing support of the machinery and/or equipment in the facility. This may include: mechanical, electrical, and repairs. Also PLC, HMI, Servo and other related machinery programming, including: control systems, PLC's and control components. Ensure that all safety and sanitation guidelines and GMP's are followed. To ensure the safety and quality of the products that the line produces.ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions- Job Duties: The following duties are considered essential to the job. Qualified individuals must have the ability to perform the following duties.Electrical troubleshooting and repair of all production machinery/equipment.Maintaining equipment schematics for equipment up-to-date when modifications are performed.Responsible to assist in implementation of automated industrial assembly machines and production lines utilizing robotics, linear motion components, conveyors.Keep library of PLC and other devices of back up programs, including an organized library of modified items and updates.Perform preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.Provide support and assistance to other mechanic/electricians as needed.Work with contractors and vendors on special projects in production or other departments.Look for and provide solutions for issues of legacy equipment to improve efficiency.Perform other related duties as assigned by department supervisors.Secondary Functions – Job Duties: The following duties are considered secondary to the essential function listed above.Responsible for completing work reports at the completion of each assignment.Place work orders for repairs and modifications to equipment and maintain documentation.Provide specific training to regular full time and temporary personnel with regards to the mechanical/electrical operations of the processing and packaging machinery/equipment to company specifications.Ensure machinery/equipment safety, including covers/guards and proper operation of all safety devices.Cleaning details and tasks/assignments as assigned by the supervisor(s).May be required to attend department meetings, safety/sanitation meetings, production meetings and quality control meetings as necessary.Other tasks and duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibilities: NoneQualificationsQualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education and/or Experience: A BS in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering is desired; or 5 years' minimum experience in similar position. Experience with high volume, fully or semi-automatic production equipment.Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of vendors or employees of organization.Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.Computer Skills: Knowledge of PLC software (preferably Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi and Yaskawa), able to connect laptop computer to PLC's and other peripheral devices. Basic knowledge and experience programming PLC's, Variable Frequency drives, Servo Drive, HMI's required. Ability to access and troubleshoot equipment using a laptop computer with PLC program. Knowledge of IIOT, network cabling, equipment networking. Ability to make simple circuit diagrams for the intent of adding devices to equipment to optimize performance. Basic knowledge and experience with camera related inspection systems. Intermediate knowledge of ACAD (or equal) and Microsoft Suite programs.Reasoning Ability: Must have the ability to apply common sense to understand and carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Must have the ability to resolve and deal with simple problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations within the production processing operation.Physical Demands: The following are the maximum requirements of the Automation Technician position.Stand/Walk: Approximately 7.5 hours out of a regular 8 hour shift on concreteSitting: During lunch and break. If work is being done in the Maintenance Shop, stools are available for sittingCarry/Lift: There is frequent light lifting, under 15 lbs., where the employee may carry a tool or their tool box to the work site. There is infrequent lifting under 50 lbs., where an employee may have to lift a motor or other machine part. For heavy parts, over 50 lbs., employees are informed to get help from one of the other mechanics before liftingPulling: Infrequently. Mechanics have a cart at their disposal to transport heavy equipment/partsBending/Stooping: Frequent. May be required when working along the production line or at the work bench. Employees have the independence to move around and stretch while workingReach: Infrequently. Depending on the project, may have to reach overhead or forwardClimbing: Infrequently. May have to climb a ladder if running conduit in the ceiling in the office area. The company has a mechanical lift for performing high work in the production areaKneeling/Crawling: Infrequently. Would depend on project, primarily along production lineRepetitive Leg/Arm Movement: Infrequently to Never.Other requirements: Must be willing to work any shift and frequent overtime on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and throughout the week.
