The Orthopedic unit is a 34-bed surgical specialty unit focused on the care of patients undergoing operative and non-operative management of musculoskeletal conditions. Common case types include total joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder), fracture repairs, spine surgeries, and other orthopedic procedures. The unit operates in a fast paced, throughput-driven environment with a strong emphasis on same-day or next-day post-operative mobility and discharge readiness. Nurses are experienced in post operative care, pain management (including PCA and multimodal regimens), neurovascular assessments, and early mobilization protocols. Close collaboration with orthopedic surgeons, physical and occupational therapy, and care management is essential to achieving optimal functional outcomes and efficient patient progression. Additionally, as we continue to evolve this floor with new CMS guidelines, other surgical patient populations may be introduced to this floor; such as urology.
