Automation Technician

Position Maintenance Automation Technician – Exempt under FLSA – Office Hours: Monday to Friday – Duluth, MN (Twin Ports region) Overview Sofidel America of Duluth, MN is looking for an Automation/Electrical Technician to join our dynamic team. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and replacing automation systems throughout the production process, troubleshooting motion sensors, control components, photosensors, and delivering reports to leadership on automation capabilities. Key Responsibilities Install, maintain, and replace automation systems at key points in the production process Troubleshoot non-functioning components including servos, sensors, and control components Log equipment usage, parts replacement, and scheduled maintenance to ensure maximum functionality Periodically report to leadership regarding automation capabilities and status Work with internal and external resources to resolve issues quickly and effectively Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and schematics to troubleshoot and maintain process control systems Program, troubleshoot, and repair Allen Bradley & Siemens PLC/DCS systems Collect PLC input and output data to monitor equipment efficiency and assist in maintenance & operations planning Complete necessary documentation for control procedures and ensure accuracy Update drawings to reflect process improvements and field changes Assist and consult with management/engineering on projects as needed Adhere to safe work practices, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure product quality Manage contractors and vendors to monitor and improve efficiency and output Other duties as assigned Job Requirements Technical degree in Electrical, Electronics Technology, Electro-Mechanical or Automation/Engineering (preferred) Experience in a production environment with focus on automation technology Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills Three years of industrial automation experience in manufacturing High school diploma or GED required Experience with AB/Rockwell DC Drive; AB/Rockwell PLCs, control logic; reading electrical drawings and ladder logic preferred Experience with variable frequency drives and smart field instruments (pressure, flow, temperature, level and analytical transmitters, valve positioners, actuators, PID controllers) necessary Understanding of PLC/DCS system components Physical Demands Stand – occasionally; walk – occasionally; sit – frequently; lift/carry 11–20 lbs – occasionally, 21–50 lbs – frequently, 51–100 lbs – frequently; reach above shoulder – occasionally; push/pull – frequently; climb – frequently; squat/kneel – occasionally; other specified movements as required.
